Associated Press

AUSTIN -- The Texas House gave preliminary approval to a Republican-drawn congressional redistricting map Tuesday, despite hours of staunch debate from Democrats.

For the third time this summer, the House approved the map sponsored by Rep. Phil King, R-Weatherford, that would likely give Texas Republicans an edge over Democrats in Congress.

The vote was 77-60 with four present but not voting.

Democrats argued -- as they have since the issue started gaining steam in the spring -- that the map would dilute the voting power of minorities and rural Texans in favor of urban and suburban Republicans.

"This is political gerrymandering at new heights at an unprecedented level," said Rep. Mike Villareal, D-San Antonio

2. Phil King
He's that little shit who keeps saying "I just want to send more Republicans to Washington to help 'President' Bush". I guess controlling the House, Senate and executive branch is not enough for these people. Or maybe it's just those damn pesky northeastern Republicans again, who won't fall into line like they're supposed to. With the exception of Ron Paul, Texas Republicans are the BIGGEST Bushbots on the planet. If their leader commanded them to jump off a bridge they would do it. They have no ideas and no vision except to be a rubber stamp for *. I mean, Sen. John Cornyn's whole campaign last year was "I'm on Team Bush". What's your position on health care? "I'm on Team Bush!" And Phil King wants more conservative white men like this in Congress.

3. Once Goodhair signs that POS bill
it's on its way to being challenged at 0.00000000001 seconds after he curls his 'Y' on his John Hancock on this crap redisticting bill.

And it'll be overturned.

Again.

And Again.

While the Repukes whine, and the people laugh at them.

Repukes in TX and in America are going down like a $0.50 whore.

4. I hope you're right!
Haven't heard much debate on the legality of all this. In any case, I'm wondering what (D) state will be the first to re-redistrict in favor of our side.

5. It would not happen in a Democratic controlled state
not because the Dems are above tricks like this but because the corporate media and their lapdogs on talk radio would be whining about how it was a subversion of the democratic process.

Different rules for pugs you know...Bush* can steal an election and we're just supposed to get over it...Clinton gets a hummer and the entire government is almost brought to a halt.
