N.J. Governor Confronts DJ Over Comments

Wednesday January 26, 2005 4:16 PM

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) - Acting Gov. Richard J. Codey threatened to ``take out'' a radio talk show host who made dismissive comments about postpartum depression, an ailment that has afflicted first lady Mary Jo Codey, a newspaper reported Wednesday.

According to an account in The Star-Ledger of Newark, Codey confronted radio host Craig Carton on Tuesday in a hallway at the Ewing Township studios of NJ 101.5.

``I wish I weren't governor, I'd take you out,'' Codey said off-air, according to a Star-Ledger reporter who witnessed the confrontation.

snip...

At the beginning of his call-in show, Codey delivered a prepared rebuttal to Carton, saying he was proud of his wife and that the remarks were ``personally offensive.''

The Governor isn't afraid to stand up for his wife and be a strong advocate for the mentally ill.

14. Yep. There's a man who belongs inthe Free World
NOT a slavish nation like Imperial Amerika.

2. PPD can be directly related to
thyroid issues, after the birth. It is not a psychiatric condition, but probably more along the lines of an endocrine disorder.

3. Unlike John McCain
Who allowed his wife and daughter to be slandered, and then supported the man who condoned it.

At least Governor Codey has courage.

4. Good on Codey...
For taking it to them. NJ101.5 is an over-powered, over-compressed-voice shithole on the radio dial. Over the past few years, they have lowered the level of political discourse in The Garden State to urinal by-products levels.

It would not make me at all unhappy if Codey took it upon himself to make it as hard as possible for 101.5 to do business in NJ.

I can barely speak to her any more as her entire conversation is spewage of that lying trash.

Getting rid of hundreds of such stations is our biggest job these days.

9. the only good thing about 101.5 is that they do NJ-specific traffic
so you can decide whether to use the TP or the GSP when driving between Philadelphia and North Jersey. Other than that, it's crap.

11. I agree; their NJ traffic reports are comprehensive, but . . .
. . . their talk is LOWER THAN lowest common denominator. A complete embarrassment to the state.

I applaud Codey for taking on that jerk!

5. Is this the same Craig Carton who got in trouble
Edited on Wed Jan-26-05 12:57 PM by tishaLA
about 10 years ago for saying Eric Lindros (then of the Flyers) was suspended for showing up for a game hungover? He was forced to leave Philadelphia's WIP radio after that because Lindros was going to sue the station and have the Flyers remove broadcast rights from the station.

He'd also claimed that Lindros had mob ties. Too bad he has reappeared if it's him.

13. NJ has a great governor!
I wish we could have one like him here in Georgia. We're stuck with Sonny Perdue and the GA Republicaban party.

15. What a crappily written article
The first sentence is a damn lie. The acting governor did NOT, as the article states, threaten to TAKE OUT the talk show host. The acting governor expressed a wish that he wasn't the governor so he COULD take the guy out. Very conditional, that sentence. Sorta like "Gee, I wish I could grow wings and fly!"

16. Carton is a whiny-voiced horse's ass
It doesn't surprise me in the least that he would make such a comment. NJ 101.5 has really gone down the toilet the past few years. Saturday Night 70s is the only redeeming program on the station.
