Afghan soldier on shooting spree
27 January, 2005

An Afghan soldier has shot dead five of his fellow troops at a coalition base in southern Helmand province, Afghan and US authorities say.

Six others were wounded before he was shot and killed. The reason for the incident is unclear.

"No information is available as to his motives," a statement issued by the US military said.

KABUL, Afghanistan – An Afghan soldier fired on fellow troops Thursday, killing five and wounding six, before he was shot and killed by other Afghan soldiers, the U.S. military said. Elsewhere, Afghan police killed a Taliban commander and captured his deputy in a shootout.

The motive for the soldier's shooting spree was unclear. It took place inside a coalition base in southern Helmand province early Thursday.

"The soldier who initiated the shooting was returning from guard duty at the time of the incident and, currently, no information is available as to his motives," a statement issued by the U.S. military said.

5. Talk about Democracy???
After the election... Allawi should be more scare of his people! Iraqi will NEVER accept him as their president. He can never be out in the open public because someone is going to kill him and he knows it. Allawi needs American protection, if we leave the Iraq, he is dead meat by his own people.
