Car Bomb Explodes Near U.S. Base in Iraq's Ramadi

RAMADI, Iraq (Reuters) - A suspected suicide car bomb exploded outside a U.S. military base in the western Iraqi city of Ramadi on Thursday, witnesses said.
A thick cloud of smoke rose from the site of the blast and there was an exchange of gunfire immediately afterwards, the witnesses said. There was no immediate information on any casualties.

U.S. military officials were not reachable for comment.

The U.S. military has a small fortified camp in the center of Ramadi, an unstable city effectively in the hands of insurgents. The camp is frequently attacked with gunfire and mortars.

... I just heard on MSRNC that the "insurgents" have free reign in Ramadi!

5. or probably still in combat
try not to revert to instant cynicism all the time. I'm very guilty of it too at times but I think it's bad for our cause in a way. Our first thoughts should always be with the soldiers and solemn hope for their safety.

6. Cynicism?
The post sounded like a healthy dose of reality to me. If that be cynicism, then, to paraphrase our fearless leader, bring it on!

Have you read Seymour Hersch's recent speech?

9. I confess to being cynical after years of being lied to
I wish I could trust the president and those conducting this war. But I can't.

11. "I wish I could trust the president..."
I know what you mean. I just finished listening to his press conference of yesterday on the White House website and his constant haranguing about Social Security and how "the math" shows the need to "fix it."

I kept thinking, "You lied us into a costly, deadly war. How the Hell do you expect us to believe you about Social Security?"

8. What military officials are "still in combat?"
Officials are in a shiny TV room at Centcom or in a palace, they aren't in combat.

What is "our cause?"

12. shadowknows
expound upon that if you will. What democracy are we giving to Iraq? At the end of a gun barrel? At the expense of their children's lives? At the expense of the destruction of their homes, their businesses?

What the hell would you care about democracy when it didn't even really exist in your country and your children were killed by the people "bringing it" to you?

13. I think you misunderstood me friend
I meant the cause of this webboard and most of its inhabitants was democracy. I know that what were doing in Iraq is wrong. I was just trying to put a friendly reminder out there that as we rage against the reasons and idiots behind this war we should never forget to throw a prayer(whatever that may be for you) to the soldiers (and innocents) caught up in this mess. I guess I didn't express myself well. I'm sorry.

14. Oh, then in that case, I'm sorry.
Jumpy nowdays. :-(

My brother in law was in Mosul until he was injured recently. Now he is in an Army hospital in Germany and we are hoping and praying his injuries are serious enough to keep him out of Iraq for a good while.

3. Resistance blows up US supply train west of Samarra’.
The Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent, who was personally in
the area of the railroad at the time of the blast, said that
two railway cars were completely destroyed in the explosion
and four others were derailed and set ablaze, destroying
their contents.

The correspondent said that a definite accounting of
US casualties could not yet be made but that he personally
saw at least 12 American soldiers bodies, all of whom
were apparently riding on the train as guards.
The correspondent noted that other people of Asian origin,
to judge by their appearance, were killed in the bombing as
well.

US helicopters hovered over the wreckage of the train as
US ground forces encircled the scene of the explosion,
which lies 4km west of
Samarra’.

How hard would it be to verify this?
