WA: GOP says 300 voted illegally (1/27/2005)
GOP says 300 voted illegally

By NEIL MODIE
SEATTLE POST-INTELLIGENCER REPORTER

Republicans have confirmed that 240 convicted felons and 60 other people voted illegally in the election that Democrat Christine Gregoire won by 129 votes, state GOP Chairman Chris Vance said yesterday.

Announcing his party's latest tally of unlawful votes in the governor's race -- ammunition in the Republican lawsuit to overturn the election result -- Vance said the 300 are in addition to 437 provisional ballots that were erroneously tabulated in King, Pierce and Stevens counties without being validated.

"The bottom line is 737 and counting," Vance said, adding that the Republicans continue to deploy about 10 people hunting for more illegal votes. He called the effort "a work in progress. ... I expect this number to grow every day."

GOP leaders and supporters of Dino Rossi, Gregoire's Republican opponent, have maintained a drumbeat of accusations aimed at keeping alive public uncertainty about the validity of Gregoire's squeaker election after 2.9 million votes were cast.

...

Because we ALL know how much the GOP cares about election fairness!

Tastes like shit, doesn't it, Mr. Rossi? Paging Katherine Harris! Ms. Harris, please purge the "felons" from the voter rolls!

What's the difference between Repukes in Washington State and 5 day old puppies?

The puppies have their eyes open.

3. What if all the "felons" voted for Rossi?
They didn't seem to give much of a shit about them until after they lost the election. Besides, how do you verify who they voted for?

10. Exactly, that's where the law isn't clear in WA
Some might say that they have to PROVE that enough of those illegal/bad votes were Gregoire votes, instead of just saying that there were 300 illegal votes, therefore Gregoire lost.

There is practically a whole forum on Ohio voting problems, here:

Not like the corporate media is paying any attention, tho.

11. Do you notice...
GOP is saying...illegall vote, instead "FRAUD"? Because, there were no fraud and they know, no court will not overturn the election under base of illegal votes. Who did they (illegal voters) vote for??? Obviousley, Rossi and the company know, they have no case and they are going to use anything they can find.

13. Is that all, just 300 out of nearly 3 Million?
That is probably pretty good statistics.

What does he hope to accomplish with this marvelous revealation? The new governor has been sworn in. Is he proposing swearing her out?

Just as we can't undo Bush with lawsuits, he can't possibly be able to reverse that one, can he?

Note to self: Republicans will fight to the very end for any election that is close. Remember to hang on tight to a win, so they don't take it away. example: Gore won, Bush inaugurated.

Isn't it rich? These bastards are going to do everything they can to make Gov. Gregoire's life hellish until they get their re-vote.

14. This lawsuit is a joke
The GOP is using the lawsuit as a way to undermine the legitimacy of the duly elected governor (something that we should have done more of in 2001 with Bush). The Washington State Constitution provides that the legislature and not the courts have exclusive jurisdiction of election disputes for governor. The case simply has no merit.

20. I disagree with this...
Nobody should get away with illegality/fraud in these elections. Though it might be nice to see the Republicans getting screwed, it would be far more useful to have both sides investigate with a big hub-a-bub, ensuring that this issue (and the others we're really concerned about) come to light.

This of course is as opposed to everyone ignoring what's going on, like now.

26. Good point.
If these votes really were illegal, than we have a problem. My only question is, where's the evidence? How do they knows the votes went to Gregoire? The Republican hypocrisy notwithstanding, Washington ought to settle this, and kill this issue for good.

30. A message to all GOP lurkers :

After Florida 2000 and Bush v. Gore, you have no business ever uttering the words "election fraud" again. Your claim to this issue is over. Forever. Permanantly. End of story. You cannot champion MASSIVE Republican election fraud four years ago, then turn around and demand a perfect and flawless election this year when it suits your partisan interests. You cannot claim that 42 votes for Rossi is an unassailable margin, but 192 votes for Gregoire is too fuzzy to mean anything. You cannot indefinitely adjust your ethics depending on which side of the scales you want to put your thumb on today. You are hypocrites, liars, and frauds, and everyone who sees you pontificating on this issue KNOWS it. You have fooled as many people for as long as you can. Now, it's over. Go crawl back under your rocks and bother someone else, because no one outside your echo chamber is listening to you pathetic hacks anymore. You're done, you're history, you're finished. End of message.

Politics and Sleaze Envelope Orlando

As the presidential campaign approaches its showdown, the Republicans in the state run by George Bush's brother are up to their tricks again.

Andrew Gumbel reports from the heart of Florida

In Orlando, the Florida home of Disneyworld and a vital political battleground, the campaign for the November presidential election is getting sly, nasty and very, very personal. Normally, at this stage of the proceedings, Ezzie Thomas, a well-known character on the predominantly African-American west side of town, would be out chatting to the people, registering them to vote before the 4 October deadline and helping them with absentee ballots if they do not think they will have time to make it to the polls on election day. But the 73-year-old Mr Thomas, an affable ladies' man, is staying out of public view for fear of exacerbating what is already a highly controversial - and highly political - criminal investigation of his election-related activities.

A similarly low profile is being taken by Steve Clelland, the head of the local firefighters' union. Last week, he did not even dare attend a local appearance by John Kerry, the candidate he is supporting for President, in case it added to the legal troubles facing his own organization. The firefighters are also subject to a criminal investigation, the chief allegation - for which no evidence has been produced - being that they colluded with City Hall to set up an illegal slush fund for political campaigning.

<snip>

GOP lurkers: Buddy Dyer was elected over a year ago. GET OVER IT.
