U.S. vetoes Arafat vote in U.N.
The following article is from CNN:
U.S. vetoes Arafat vote in U.N.

UNITED NATIONS (CNN) -- The United States vetoed a U.N. resolution that would have demanded Israel halt threats to expel Palestinian Authority President Yasser Arafat.

Eleven of the 15 Security Council members voted for the resolution on Tuesday and three members abstained -- Britain, Bulgaria and Germany. The U.S. veto killed the resolution.

In the Middle East, chief Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erakat said: "This is a sad day for the United Nations. I hope the U.S. veto will not be interpreted by Israel as a license to kill Yasser Arafat."

---SNIP---

International criticism escalated Sunday following Israeli Vice Prime Minister Ehud Olmert's remark that killing Arafat was an option. Israeli Foreign Minister Silvan Shalom backtracked Monday, saying that such was not official policy.

---USER COMMENTARY---

Israel can do anything it wants. Israel can murder anyone it wants. And your country is the one protecting it. And helping to fund it. I wonder what sort of destiny will manifest from that behavior.

2. Wasn't Israel waiting for the "green light"?
To off Arafat? I guess this might qualify.

3. Fuck Israel
They are not our friend anymore than Saudi Arabia is our friend. Face it, American Jews. Israel is a terrorist state. You support the right wing extremist leaders of Israel--like that terrorist SHARON--you support terrorism.

5. I wouldn't use such generalizations...

I understand and share your outrage Evil Dewers, but I personally know Jewish Americans that don't support Israel's attempts to destroy the Palestinian people. If I were one of them, I might be offended at the assumption. Just a friendly suggestion. :)

6. Jewish Americans who send money to Israel...
or send their children there to be recruited by Sharon to settle there or give to the various pro-Zionist lobbies who arm twist Congress to make policy which validates "Israel does no wrong" are supporting terrorism. Yes, suicide bombers are scum. However, the IDF (Israel Defense Force) has killled twice as many civilians as the Palestinian terrorists have killed in the last few years. A right wing Israeli assassinated Rabin when it looked like peace had a glimmer of hope, and the idiots in Israel turned rabid right wing as their response.

8. Any American who sends money to Israel
should be treated no differently than any American who sends money to Hamas, IMO.

Israel is the second biggest terrorist state in the world, IMO.

11. stick a Fork in you, boy
More importantly:

Are you capable of thinking beyond the black and white?

Nader = savior (according to you).

(according to you) Israel = ally, even when they spy on us and manipulate us and give 900 millions Muslims even more fuel to hate us. It is time to cut the Israel cord and start treating them like the US treats Syria and the rest of the world. Like shit. Hey, if Israel wants to murder Arafat so fucking bad, perhaps they can do without loans and $4 billion in free money from US taxpayers. It galls me that not only does Israel get "foreign aid" from my gov't to murder civilians, I get to pay the interest on their loans (which may or may not ever be paid back) since many loans to foreign gov'ts are ultimately "forgiven."

U.S.S. Liberty victims want reparations.

4. what the hell!!
do as i say, not as i do. i can not understand why, if the bushco was "against" killing arafat, that they would then overturn something that would keep israel in check over the issue. its like a parent saying to a child, "you cant have any desert" but then putting a plate of cookies in front of them.

13. The administration is schizophrenic
They want the UN to be like Norquist's federal govt, feeble enough to drown in the bathtub, but they also want it strong enough to be a giant coalition of the willing to contribute troops at gunpoint.

This is the essential insanity of Norquist, and all his followers. They want a weak government that somehows still keeps the prols in line. They want a corporate world that still has a military.

And they want a weak UN, until they stick their dick in the meat grinder, when they plead to the UN to rush into the phone booth, whip off their glasses, and fly to rescue them.

Between State and DoD, we are all over the lot re the UN. Sadly, DoD makes our foreign polcy, State just gets to try and sell it.

"Just to remind you that today is the 21st anniversary of the massacre of Sabra and Shatila. Do you remember that? Do you remember Mr. Sharon?" al-Kidwa said.

takeover of our foreign policy by PNAC, Likud, and their allies in AIPAC. As both Democrats (hello Nancy Pelosi!) and Republicans support and take money from AIPAC, both are guilty, wittingly, and unwittingly, of supporting PNAC/Likud, and their goal of a fascist takeover of the Middle East.

The politicians who support this U.N. action (as well as PNAC/Likud/AIPAC), are supporting the direction of our foreign policy by a foreign power (in this case, Israel). They are guilty of violating our Constitution, and betraying this nation. It's call t-r-e-a-s-o-n.

It is for the sake of Israel, and at the urging its fascist-Likud dominated government, that we are in Iraq at all. Yes, oil and power were also motives, but the main impetus, was the redrawing the Middle East's geopolitical map to Israel's liking.

Let's quit fooling ourselves, and really take a look at who, and what, is involving this nation in illegal and shameful wars, and then work to eliminate them from power, because as long as they are allowed to shape our destiny, we no longer control it, to the detriment of this nation, ......and the world.

12. WAS THE LEAD FRONT PAGE ARTICLE IN THIS MORNINGS LA JORNADA,
Mexico's primary national newspaper. It is a good indication of how the US is viewed even by its distant next door neighbor let alone the rest of the world. A link to the Spanish language article is here.
