"Giant" 17 pound baby born in Brazil

Mother was diabetic and this can happen sometimes with women with this condition.

6. I think it's the same baby. That one was born in Brazil also.
Olbermann covered it last week. I think their dates are wrong.

7. Let's hear it for C-Section! Woohoo!
17 lbs is okay for TWINS. But one baby? That's just not fair.

12. Big deal. My daddy was 14 lbs at birth.
And he would have been in the newspapers but for the fact that two women in the hospital had 17 pounders that day, and the newspapers thought that was more interesting. Newburg, NY about 88 years ago.

16. It is gestational diabetes. The mothers body does not break down sugar...
Edited on Fri Jan-28-05 02:35 AM by mordarlar
so it goes directly to the baby. I have it and had a 9lb two weeks early (they said full term she would have been near 11) and a 9lb 10oz baby. This is on a diabetic diet. I do not have diabetes outside of pregnancy but am more likely to get it with age.

My aunt had a 11 1/2 baby c-section and my mother had a 10lb 12 oz .

17. My daughter, who was
6 lbs. 8 1/2 oz. at birth, weighed 17 lbs. at one year of age. Yes, she was small for a 1-yr-old, but she weighed at 1 year what this kid did at birth.
