Expect to See More of Cheney on Capitol Hill, Possibly Abroad
By Deb Riechmann Associated Press Writer
Published: Jan 28, 2005

KRAKOW, Poland (AP) - After years of globe-trotting in Air Force Two attending funerals of world leaders, George H.W. Bush once joked that the best tools for the job were a black hat and veil.
Nobody would make that suggestion to Vice President Dick Cheney, even in jest.

On Thursday, he was walking among dozens of heads of state at Auschwitz, commemorating 60 years since the liberation of the Nazi death camp. On Wednesday, he met for more than an hour with the new president of Ukraine and chatted with the president of Poland, a staunch ally in the war in Iraq.

No longer trying to help President Bush get re-elected, Cheney now has more time to represent the president overseas. He went to Afghanistan last month to attend the inauguration of Hamid Karzai, the first popularly elected president of the new democracy formed after U.S.-led forces toppled the Taliban.

As Bush's second term begins, Cheney is also likely to spend more time on Capitol Hill, quietly lobbying for votes on Social Security, taxes and legal reforms.

1. Yeah.....like Cheney's visit is the equivalent of just another routine

engagement. Cheney only does something if it can't be entrusted to the chimp.....and you can bet his business there is not just diplomatic chit-chat. The more casual they attempt to make it sound the more important it likely is.

No, Cheney's new exposure in public is actually more likely due to his growing comfort level with being seen in his real role as 'president', rather than saying anything about a more active role as a vice. Now that his chimp has been re-selected, he doesn't have to hide behind the curtain so much.

2. Hell yes
he has many more business deals to make, many more nations and peoples to screw, and he needs a few more cubic feet of $$$$$$ to stuff in his double-wide casket when he leaves us.

3. I guess that'll be that many more opportunities for this b*st*rd
to be arrested and brought to trial by the International Criminal Court... or whichever international court tries people for war crimes.

I'm surprised he will be that visible, considering all we used to hear of him was that he was "in an undisclosed location". I think that was when he was huddling in that Cold War-era bunker they have in Virginia. (Though I'm sure the bunker is so luxurious that one would not have to "huddle" unless he were very, very afraid.)

The security around those suckers is unbelievable. They sure are scared... more scared than any U.S. president and vice-president I've ever observed. I guess they know how much they are hated. Hope it disturbs their sleep at night, too.

4. Well they set a new precedent t by okaying the deployment of
'assassination squads' around the globe to take out world leaders if deemed necessary. Of course they must expect a reciprocal response.
Plus, when you're the most hated administration in American history, both by Americans and foreign countries....well ya just can't be too careful.

6. "Of course they must expect a reciprocal response." Hmmm...
I hadn't thought of that. Heh heh--I guess when one is a stateless powermonger, he has to fear more than just ordinary street crime. Must suck!

It is a very sad irony that the American opponents (such as us) of these criminals are far more moral than they are, and therefore wouldn't think of solving problems by violence... nice guys finish last, but at least they can sleep at night...

5. Nothing disturbs their sleep.
Disturbed sleep implies a conscience.

7. Touche... but even a monster presumably
has enough desire for self-preservation to fear that which can destroy it. I mean, I'm just hoping that fear for the fate of their own sweet asses keeps them up at night...

I mean, they've spread fear far and wide among our population, with their bogus "terror" threats... wouldn't it be poetic justice if they felt a little fear themselves?

8. Yes, it would be poetic justice,
but I have my doubts they feel fear. Maybe they do. Since the first inauguration day, 2001, Bush showed fear of the American people.

I hope you are right.
