The Australian | January 27, 2005

A website being used by American soldiers to post grisly pictures of Iraqi war dead.

The site, which has been operating for more than a year, describes itself as "an online archive of soldiers' photos".

Dozens of pictures of decapitated and limbless bodies are featured on the site with tasteless captions, purportedly sent in by soldiers.

Captions include "plastic surgery needed", "road kill" and "I said dead".

2. hmmm -- i might have doubts about soldiers
posting all of these photos and writing the ignorant remarks -- but i have no doubt that there are plenty of crude, attention seeking barbarians out there who would do this.
free republic come to mind?

4. You haven't been paying attention, have you?
Many , but my no means all, of our troops have proved themselves to be ignorant, crude, barbarians. I am quite sure that there are those who consider murdering Iraqis to be good sport and bragging about their kills is just part of the game.

6. I can only imagine how many more soldiers become like this...
with each and every death of a comrade in Iraq. It is a vicious cycle out of control.

8. Take it from one who knows
That is EXACTLY what our troops are trained to be. Mean green killing machines, who take pride in their work. It's an ugly truth, but truth it is nonetheless.

If we deem ourselves a civilized people we need to seriously rethink the way we train our military. We honor them, by default, in fact to do otherwise is considered treasonous in today's society but we train them to be as uncivilized as we possibly can make them. And we are VERY good at making them into whatever we wish them to be.

She suggested Free Republic as a possible source, not soldiers. Doesn't mean some soldiers wouldn't do it though.

10. It's not the troops, it's their leaders!
As a veteran I know that troop's actions generally reflect their leader's attitudes. The troops are generally young kids thrown into a frightening situation and they look to the more experienced senior enlisted and officers to guide them. If the troops are out of control it's because their leaders are allowing it.
