Carlos Delgado Still Won't Stand for 'God Bless America'
An opponent of the war in Iraq, Delgado refused to stand when ``God Bless America'' was played last season at games involving his Toronto Blue Jays. Instead, he would stay on the bench or go into the dugout tunnel.

``I wouldn't call it politics, because I hate politics,'' Delgado said Thursday after finalizing his $52 million, four-year contract. ``The reason why I didn't stand for `God Bless America' was because I didn't like the way they tied `God Bless America' and 9-11 to the war in Iraq in baseball.

``I say God bless America, God bless Miami, God bless Puerto Rico and all countries until there is peace in the world.''

it sounds good to me and I support him on this.

and it's people like this who are the true patriots.

2. Why....
....would anyone stand for "God Bless America" anyway? People DO know it's not the National Anthem or anything, right?

16. The national anthem at least has a long history in baseball.
This God Bless America nonsense is patent Bud Selig bullshit. What I would love to see is a bunch of people going to a Yankee game on Opening Day with the intent on disrupting "God Bless America" by singing the song we used to sing during the seventh inning stretch - Take Me Out To The Ball Game, encouraging as much of the crowd as possible to join in.

8. Was this in his contract?
If he sits up to 16 times, he will be paid $25,000, more than 16 but less than 32, $500000? And he requested and received a special chair just for the 7th inning to sit on? And three times per year he gets to pick an alternate song for the 7th inning. Man, what an agent he has.:spank:

Methinks there will be some "outrage."

11. Alas, he's one of the few in MLB to see through this baloney.
I don't stand during "God Bless America" at games either, though I do stand for "Bring Me Out To The Ballgame." That's why I'm there, after all. Not for some cookie cutter, false patriotism.
