Halliburton the big winner from Iraq invasion
http://feeds.bignewsnetwork.com/?sid=23ed1b69eda9c34d

Halliburton has rocketed to becoming the sixth largest defense contractor in 2004.

The company, formerly headed by U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney, was not even in the top 100 contractors prior to the invasion of Iraq.

Halliburton was the seventh largest contracter in 2003 but edged out United Technologies last year to take sixth position.

Despite numerous scandals involving allegations of being awarded tenders on a non-compete basis, over-charging, and kick-backs, Halliburton's fortunes continue to rise.

2. Democrats asked him for communiques between Cheney & Hall
"During the recent presidential campaign he refused to respond to a request from Democrats in Congress that he provide an accounting of any communications he and his staff have had with Halliburton, or actions they took on Halliburton contracts."

They never got an answer and yet Americans voted for him!!!

3. Halliburton was on the verge of bankruptcy from Cheney's mismanagement
plus it had been fined by the US government for fraudulent billing and had done illegal business with other countries. That company was as bad as Enron.

The Invasion of Iraq was at least 25% corporate welfare for Halliburton.

4. Gee, and after it was nearly bankrupt at the end of 2002
Sure was a lucky thing for Halliburton that Iraq war started, wasn't it?

The corruption stares big media right in the face, but because their paychecks depend on it, reporters all over the country pretend they don't see it.

5. Enron out, Halliburton in.
Doesn't matter what name you call it(I call it corruption at the highest levels of our government). The same people benefit. And the American people sail blithely on, getting the mother of all shafts.

8. imo, Dick learned the loopholes in Federal Acquisition Regulations
Edited on Fri Jan-28-05 06:06 PM by cosmicdot
(FARs)... such as the reg changes made to make procurement of 'off-the-shelf' item procurement easier under FAR and DCAS (defense contract auditing) justifications/oversight ...

... gained this knowldege during his previous White House stints ... and, took it to Halliburton where he created product, i.e., off-the-shelf army base-in-a-box catalog item, to sell 'sole-source' to the Pentagon ...

... how convenient to have stolen his way back into power to complete his cunning plan and to 'make things happen'; and, of course $$$$$ ... just add water: endless oil wars ... just needed something to kick-start things (LIHOP/MIHOP) ...

$10 billion in Iraq contracts ... that's a lot of zeroes
````````````````````````````````````````````````````````
KBR is the largest U.S. contractor in Iraq, with more than
****$10 billion**** in work orders from the Army to provide troop
support and rebuild Iraq's oil industry. Various agencies are
investigating allegations of overbilling and favoritism because Vice
President Dick Cheney ran Halliburton from 1995-2000, but the company
denies wrongdoing, calling itself a political target.
