I'm not sure how I feel about this? Maybe these items are too sensitive to bring out?

Auction of KKK paraphernalia causes rift in Michigan town

HOWELL, Mich. A Michigan man who's auctioning Ku Klux Klan paraphernalia tomorrow says he's just selling "a part of history."

But it's a history some residents in Howell want to forget. Howell has a reputation for being racist.

Leaders in the town, which is 97 percent white, say it's because of a K-K-K leader named Robert Miles who lived on a farm outside Howell until his death in 1992. Miles was convicted of conspiring to burn school buses during an integration fight in Pontiac -- and he was convicted of tarring and feathering a school principal in the Ypsilanti area.

Community leaders say they have made progress in changing how people view Howell and they worry the auction and its publicity could undermine their efforts.

2. I grew up near Howell and we have always associated it with the KKK
That, and the fact that their basketball team used to wear plaid shorts (their school nickname is "Highlanders".)
