Putin suggests Russia will sell missiles to Syria
Putin suggests Russia will sell missiles to Syria

29/01/2005

Russian President Vladimir Putin suggested Friday that a planned sale of missiles to Syria will go on as planned, despite objections by Israel and the United States.

Putin, in an interview with Israel's Channel Ten television, said that the sale of SA-18 surface-to-air missiles would not in any way change the balance of powers in the Middle East. "We understand the importance of the balance and are committed to keeping it, but the weapons at stake will not change this balance," Putin said.

Responding to Israeli fears, Putin asserted that the missiles will not find their way to terrorists. "We have the ability to know exactly where these missiles are located," Putin said, and added that the missiles are mounted on vehicles, and cannot operate if they are detached from them.

Russian officials denied earlier this month that Moscow was discussing missile sales to Syria, but Israeli leaders had feared the contract would be signed during a visit by Syrian President Bashar Assad to Moscow earlier this week.

3. Pretty cool unit
Where there are SA-18s, other goodies cannot be far behind.
Looks like Putin may settle the score with the US after all.

4. bush* looked into Putin's eyes and saw a way to make $$ through aggression
and saber rattling. Wonder if Poppy's visit to Russia a few months back was to dicker over BFEE's commission from the sale of Russian weapons to nations worried about the US attacking them. What a racket!

7. Putin to Bush:
"Bush, you stupid idiot. Do you see what I'm trying to do here?" Go back and read my statement again. See where I say 'We understand the importance of the balance'.

"I'm trying to make you understand that the world needs balance. It can't ALL be the United States, every day, all day, on every channel. See? When the scales of balance are tipped in one direction, the rest of the world becomes unbalanced......unsafe.

Know what I mean, buddy? Now, when we sell lots of missles to our friends in Syria, we're sending you a very clear message: BACK OFF.

Stay the fuck out of Syria. Also Iran. We're going to do the same thing for them. Just to give you and the State Department a few things to think about over the weekend....."

Have a great Super Bowl, Dude.

With love from Putey.

10. Thanks for the info, O.
I'm glad to hear that there is some kind of attempt at stability.

I've been reading about the US fly-overs of Iran, and it's making me very nervous lately. Good.

11. If one side is determine
to start a war nothing can stop it.
Hence it is important Americans dont stop pressuring their elected representatives in the Congress and the Senate not to go to war.

15. If this isn't building up to be WW3 I don't know what is.
I think a line is going to be drawn in the sand very soon. As much as I like seeing the US get bent out of shape over things like this, The sell of anymore arms regardless of who's selling or buying is an abomination to the human race.

16. Abalance of power in the ME would mean nuclear weapons to
counterbalance the 300 nukes Israel has pointed at her neighbors. After all, that's what is causing all the trouble, isn't it?

17. You are totally right-There need to be deterrents for U.S.invaders
Otherwise PNAC goes according to plan and
Syria and Iran belong to Chimpy & buddies and they actually do end up ruling the world(if they control the oil)

next they'll try and take all the water and make money on all the dying masses, selling them back their own water.

Nukes for every country please!!
Then the playing field is even and negotiation HAS to be the main option for any conflict.

But no, some greedy bastards always want to have to upper hand.
The world will likely unite against further U.S. aggression.
This is just the first step(Russia supplying the party favors).
Eat my nukes Chimpy-You'll never get to savor one drop of that sweet crude you so desperately seek (in the name of freedumb)

18. They see Bush finally committed to Iran
so they are counterchecking by a missile crisis in Syria. Which Bush in his cowlike single mindedness may just simply ignore.

Tough luck for Israel as this backfiring costs them plenty. Another Bush crony ally left eating dirt.

Maybe this is too smart a move for the Bush people even to see on the screen. If the Soviets want to stop the US or continue to see it destructively embroiled in the Mideast maybe it could come up with simpler, more decisive methods. Maneuvers are lost on the Cheney people.

America launched an unjust ruinous war. They should be opposed as any rogue nation would since the consequences do not differ for the world community as long as Bush is in charge of the initiative.

20. It would be a Russian fool to be not making money!
It won't change the balance of powers in ME, but it certainly could change the balance of Russian's balance sheet!

Sell arms, make profit, and let others die.
