Iraqis vote amid mounting attacks

Queues outside polling stations have been targeted by bombers
Iraqis are voting in their first multi-party elections for half a century amid several reports of blasts and attacks at polling stations. At least five people are known to have died in two attacks in Baghdad.

More than 100 parties and coalitions are competing for 275 seats in a transitional national assembly which will draw up a new constitution.

But turnout is patchy so far, with long queues in Basra but little voting in cities in the Sunni heartland.

In Baghdad's Sadr City, at least four people died when a mortar struck a polling station. At least seven people were wounded.
