Pelosi joins tribute to Zhao Ziyang
she read my mind...

Has George "Freedom" Bush commented on Zhao's death?

http://www.cnn.com/2005/ALLPOLITICS/01/29/pelosi.zhao/

<snip>

Pelosi said that the Chinese government has kept the circumstances of Zhao's death a secret from its people "but the more they tried to suppress his message and his courage, the stronger they make him."

She said Zhao was like the young man who stood before the tank in Tiananmen Square: "a courageous individual making a statement for freedom" and "maybe in death his message will even be stronger than it was in life."

"Troops may crush a protest, but they can never extinguish the flame of freedom that burns in every heart, here and in China," Pelosi said, adding, "So when our administration says that we are going to take freedom to the darkest corners of the earth, I hope that includes the largest country in the world as well."

4. Did you read the statement?
She basically endorsed a war w/China. Maybe the wording was wrong, and she was really calling for reform and better relations, but she should not have stooped to "Bush-isms" to promote better relations w/China. It sends completely the wrong message.

5. What's wrong with that?
I mean, I'm not particularly eager to ship folks out there, but if there's one country that has done more to eradicate the rights of the most people in the world, it's China.

This all goes back to the horrific inaction of Bush Sr. in the wake of Tiannemen Square. One year after that massacre, Bush pushed for renewing their "Most Favored Nation" trading status with us. That's inexcusable.

Let me be clear. I don't want a war. However, I most certainly do want the Chinese people to be free.

6. I don't see it as endorsing war, I see it as pointing the Emperor's
inconsistencies when he talks about "bringing freedom to the world" because he hasn't the GUTS to take on a powerful country, only one he can beat the shit out of.

7. CHINAGATE
WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO CHINAGATE? CONGRESSMAN CHRIS COX SAID THE GUILTY PARTIES SHOULD BE EXECUTED. NOBODY EVEN GOT ARRESTED.
CHINAGATE WAS A BIG DEAL AT ONE TIME BECAUSE IT INVOLVEDS THE SELLING OF NUCLEAR TECHNOLOGY SECRETS TO CHINA. THAT WOULD BE TREASON.
I GUESS IT ALL JUST GOES AWAY IN A FEW DAYS.
