Canadian team monitoring Iraqi election from Jordan

Jean-Pierre Kingsley defends his decision to keep tabs on the vote from afar, saying it just isn't safe enough for most international monitors to be inside the country. "We always said if it's possible we'll do it, but it has turned out that practically no one has been able to go into Iraq to do any kind of observation," said Kingsley.

In spite of the security concerns, some foreign observers on the ground and some of them are Canadian.

A Winnipeg man, who asked for anonymity, says this election is just the first step. "It's going to take, I think, a long time to gain the confidence and the trust in each other so they can work together to create a nation. But believe me the will is there."

Of course, how would we Americans know how to monitor anything?

We couldn't even monitor our own elections and undo the fatal damage of rigged votes and manipulative disenfranchisement in several states.
