1. Colin Powell for the Nobel Peace Prize?
This guy brazenly lies before the UN about the necessity for war in Iraq and he's nominated for a Peace Prize?!?!

:puke:

2. I might have thrown the name of --
-- Senator Robert Byrd in the mix.

He argued as passionately and clearly as possible on the floor of the Senate against Bush's maniacal blunder in Iraq.

28. The assessment could be qualitative and not quantitative.
The principled conscience serves as a solitary example of integrity against the tawdry decimation of the Bill of Rights and the Constitution, which Bush/Ashcroft/etc have engendered.

An unidentified White House source (someone in Cheney's office?) called the senior senator from West Virginia a "prick," and told one reporter that "No one listens to doddering old Bob Byrd."

I listen to him. He is a close friend of my aunt. His history-making remarks against the president's private war are worthy of consideration by the Nobel Committee. Powell was one of the architects of war; Byrd spoke for peace, eloquently.

15. Ask my dead son...
Oh you can't, you see, my only child lies in a VA cemetery plot thanks to Colinoreo.

What really hurts is that today is my birthday, I woke up at 1 AM crying because my boy isn't here with me and he will never be with me again.

I guess I'll go visit him after work today. Once again, if they desecrate his grave with a flag, I'll bring it home and burn it.

4. No way should Col. Powell get this award, dimishes it's importance
I use to respect Powell until he got into the mix with * and his posse but no more, to bad really, not Nobel material any more.

10. "Diminishes it's [sic] importance"?...
... while there have been some extremely worthy recipients of the Nobel Peace Prize, there have been some that I consider less worthy. I still haven't figured out what the Nobel Prize for Peace truly represents. Any award that equates Henry Kissinger and Nelson Mandala is incomprehensible to me. The list of past recipients seems to be very diverse.

Based on the history of this award, why not give Colin Powell a nomination? I think he will put forward a good case against Carrot Top and that guy from the Verizon ads ("can you bomb me now?").

5. Gee...why not give one to Bush, Cheney, Rice, and Rumsfeld too
if peddling lies earns a Nobel Peace Prize, the entire Bush Administration is deserving.

6. Don't waste your money putting down money on Powell just yet
http://www.khaleejtimes.com/DisplayArticle.asp?xfile=data/theworld/2005/January/theworld_January742.xml§ion=theworld&col=

Salient paragraphs from the above article:

As tradition dictates, the Nobel Institute never reveals the identities of the candidates. However, those entitled to submit nominations for the prize—including past laureates, members of parliament and cabinet ministers from around the world and some university professors—are allowed to disclose their suggestions.

The Ukrainian president is thus known to be on the list, having been nominated by a group within the Ukrainian academic community for his peaceful fight for democracy in his country.

...The conflict in Sudan, Africa’s longest running war which ended in January when the government and Sudan People’s Liberation Army signed a peace treaty, could also earn Colin Powell the prize, a candidate vigorously supported by US Senator Frank Wolf.

“President Bush and Secretary Powell should be considered for the Nobel Peace Prize for their efforts” in Sudan, he said at a peace ceremony in Naivasha, Kenya on January 9.

----
Here's my guess--Powell is a super long-shot. If you read the full article, the leading contenders appear to be tsunami aid groups. Nominations close Tuesday.

mercy on us all if Powell is seen as a potential Nobel Peace equivalent to Dr. Martin Luther King

12. The paper is from India
...and the story has an OSLO dateline. Perhaps the reporter doesn't do US political nuance...he probably figures, hey, those American idiots reelected him, they must all be on the same page.

7. If Powel gets it, it should be called the "Atrocity Award"
It would be the worst decision in the history of the Nobel Committee.

13. COLON BOWEL?
If he gets the award, I will disown myself from the Norwegians. They know better than that.

The Americans are the equivalent of -- well, never mind. Let's just say that they won't do it. That would be validating everything that's happened around the world.

"Peace" is not the first thing that comes to my mind when I think of Mr. Powell, unless, of course, it is "lying 'peace' of shit."
