Arab nations to call for UN General Assembly resolution on Israel
Arab countries have decided to ask the UN General Assembly to adopt a resolution calling on Israel to halt threats to expel Yasser Arafat.

Unlike Security Council resolutions, General Assembly ones are not legally binding - and not subject to vetoes - but they do reflect global opinion.

2. But the UN will be right!
Which is why we should be working WITH the UN.
This ain't ant-Semitism; just good basic humanity.

3. A crooked game with a crooked dealer at a crooked table.
The United Nations is an organization whose sole existence is to stop "the scourge of war" and "reaffirm faith in fundamental human rights". When we regularly vote against and veto legislation which would punish us and our gunsels for sword swinging, we are dishonored as a society.

6. You left out mighty Tuvalu!
Rest of the world: wrong! the U.S., Micronesia, Israel, and Tuvalu= right!

Of course, the fact that the vote is so lopsided isn't taken as evidence that Israel is actually morally reprehensible; it's proof that the rest of the world is 'biased against Israel.' Pointing out that such a ridiculous world view is evidence of paranoia and extreme denial is simply taken as proof that you are in on the plot. Heads you lose, tails you lose.

7. Germany and Britain will abstain
I actually think all this talk of sidelining Arafat by 'removing' him is counterproductive for Israel anyway because they know they can't seriously do it and that all this talk only elevates Arafat's stature once again. And I say all that knowing that I'm about as pro-Israel as you can get on this board and hate to come into these discussions because they make me ill.
