Explosion Reported at Iraq Oil Pipeline
An explosion along the main oil pipeline from Iraq (news - web sites) to Turkey triggered a large fire early Thursday near the northern Iraqi town of Bayji, witnesses said.

The explosion occurred about dawn just north of Bayji, about 120 miles north of Baghdad, the witnesses said. The cause of the blast could not be immediately determined and the extent of damage was unclear.

4. Do you think it is because they know?
They know that it is a way for the U.S. to steal their natural resources. They know that it is what the U.S. came in there to get. They know that with little to no oil revenue it puts the financial burden on the U.S. and forces them to live with their sins of invasion. They know that it puts political pressure on Bush to do his job correctly. They know!!!

5. Halliburton has the contract to put out fires, more money than pumping

until they get all the equipment spiffed up and implement the new pricing/supply strategies, it's more profitable to keep em burning and keep billing for putting out the fires.

6. They just spent a fortune
repairing this particular pipeline.

This isn't the first time it's blown up.

And until they start pumping...there's no money.

Well except for what's in your pocket of course.

7. Right. Halliburton doesn't care WHERE the money comes from

The one they have ready to pump only pumps a little bit, to Turkey, who doesn't pay much for it anyway, as part of a deal with the bush regime.

It's to their advantage to hold off pumping big quantities until they can secure the supply/price structure which may or may not require additional "operations" outside of Iraq.

And the next pipeline after this one is going to Israel anyway, who will pay very little if anything for it.

8. Another I told you so post
This might not have happened had this Administration not followed a foolish and misguided policy in the Middle East. This shouldn't surprise anyone and I must say I TOLD YOU SO!

9. How long
before the Turks decide they have to protect the pipeline themselves, and move into the area in massive numbers, inciting a full scale war with the Kurds?
