American soldiers involved in shooting of Iraqi police had arrived in city
American soldiers involved in shooting of Iraqi police had arrived in city a day earlier

By Hamza Hendawi, Associated Press, 9/18/2003 05:48

FALLUJAH, Iraq (AP) American soldiers who mistakenly killed eight Iraqi policemen and a Jordanian guard this month had been in this turbulent city for only one day and were in the midst of a handover from one military unit to another, according to U.S. and Iraqi officials.

According to these officials, confusion and inexperience may have contributed to the Sept. 12 killings, the worst ''friendly fire'' incident since major hostilities were declared over May 1.

Capt. Jimmy Cummings, spokesman for the 82nd Airborne Division's headquarters in Fort Bragg, N.C., dismissed any suggestion that the soldiers who had been in Iraq for a week were ill-prepared.

Confusion and inexperience.

2. well, gee
if they had only been in Iraq for a week, then the only stories that they would have been hearing were how wonderfully it was going!

Things are just peachykeen and they locals love our guys and anyone who says different is aiding and abetting the terraists and needs to be on the first plane to Eyerack (I've had several tickets offered to be purchased for me).

3. illprepared or not...they still killed 10 people
for no good reason other than their own confusion. It's really tragic, this mess that the neocons have created. Sending young, scared boys into a world of hell, for no good reason whatsoever. There ought to be a law... oh yeah, there is. :grr:

Then there ought to be a court... oh yeah, there is.

4. It was my nephew's company
that was involved in the shooting. When will this madness end?
