4. they're quoting the '8' from Al-Arabiya
Though, I believe that the Telegraph is fairly credible source (IIRC), and they probably wouldn't go out on a limb with number unless felt it was likely to be accurate.

Personally, I don't doubt that the numbers are that bad as I think the casualty count we've been getting stateside has been sanitized by the MediaBorg, but I'm taking anything I hear from Al-Arabiya with a grain of salt as well.

5. it will get worse...

Bringing the veteran combat troops home, while overdue, means that they were replaced by National Guard and Reserve troops. Those guys don't have the experience to do what they're being asked to do.

It's only going to get worse.

9. Sadly, that is true.
The rotation will provide relief for those there, but rather suddenly, those who are unfamiliar with their surroundings will be there.

10. YOU ARE RIGHT-- THEY HAVE NO EXPERIENCE IN MURDERING WOMEN AND CHILDREN
If the nat guard is sent there some of them will smuggle home pictures of these atrocities.

13. And worse.
Our fire discipline is completely FUBAR. The article mentions yet another wedding massacre, and recalls the Iraqi police friendly-fire snafu.

Sometimes I think we're muddling through over there, then, like today, I think we're teetering on the brink of the chasm.

Also, sketchy reports of 4 US troops captured by Taliban in another thread here.

Bring 'em on? Christ, what a stupid jerk we have for President.

I certainly understand Rep. Murtha's passion at the congressional press conference Tuesday. Vietnam combat vet, 30 years in the House, backed Shrub from the beginning on invading Iraq, but man alive, he flat tore the malAdmin to shreds in front of those reporters, including profanity seldom heard on c-span, but totally apropos this profane bushco tragedy.

7. A three-year-old boy
Unconfirmed reports said a three-year-old boy was
shot in the chest during the firefight.

"Look at the blood all over the house.
We are not to blame for this," housewife Samam Kadhim said.
"This is the American behavior aggression
toward Muslim houses."

8. US Central Command is taking their time to announce this...
...as usual. Must notify the relatives AND President Bush first. They notify the press last once they think up the best spin for this horror.

14. Shut up, you liberal whiners!
Geez, some soldiers die and you go all to pieces. Oh, boo hoo hoo! Remember, Ann Coulter said they're just getting their hair mussed. We all know the AP is a commie-influenced Saddam mouthpiece, spewing out stories to weaken the American war effort. Why, I bet those soldiers are out right now, getting themselves a frosty, tasty frozen treat at Baskin Robbins.

16. Two Iraqi civilians were reportedly hurt
Edited on Thu Sep-18-03 01:45 PM by sattahipdeep
Two Iraqi civilians were reportedly hurt in the attacks, witnesses
said, though there was no word on how they were wounded.

In another development, U.S. troops in Iraq detained an American on
suspicion of attacking the U.S.-led forces but later released him, a
top U.S. general said Thursday while denying any Americans are
currently in custody.

21. WHAT THE FUNK
why can't we get a confirmed answer on the number. I have read that 8 are dead, another says 3 are dead and the US news agencies are saying 2 wounded. Wouldn't Centcom want to debunk a rumor such as 8 soldiers being killed. Oh wait hurricanes are part of nature's fury, thank god they cleared that up.

22. Dupe... locking
Although this story has changed, and in a tragic way, since first reported here at LBN, it's best if we can keep our discussion consolidated within the original thread, here:

If you wish to post a significant update to the story within the original thread, it's helpful to use the word UPDATE within your subject line.

Thanks everyone!
