Rivals Bash GOP Front-Runner

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 18 -- With California's recall election in limbo, candidates are biding their time by taking up a new hobby: bashing Arnold Schwarzenegger.

The actor, a front-running Republican in the campaign, has become as much a target of taunts and attacks as the main character in the recall saga, Gov. Gray Davis (D).

The latest ambush came at a candidate debate here Wednesday that featured four prominent candidates sitting next to an empty chair that had been reserved for Schwarzenegger, who has shown no interest in attending any forum but one scheduled for next week in which he and his rivals will know the questions in advance.

Schwarzenegger, who has been shadowed at some events by a heckler in a chicken suit for not joining debates, is scoffing at the criticism and aggressively trying to counter charges that his campaign has not been specific on issues.

McClintock and Bustamante both are gonna boycott the *ONE* debate Arnold agreed to...You know the one where they are gonna get the "debate" questions ahead of time? Sweet.

I see here on my handy dandy Official Sample Ballot I can vote early at one of the 12 Touchscreen voting locations...Black Box Voting comes to L.A. Gotta get those Arnold BBV votes in early and often, huh?

I think I'll vote absentee ballot or with the punch-holes ballot on election day.

3. Cruz called for boycott to the "debate"

put together by the broadcasters where they get questions in advance. Arianna is apparently in accord. When Mcclintock said his favorite book was something by M freidman , Arianna said Arnold also liked Freidman,to which Mcclintock replied :"but I actually read the book." I will not watch the debate cause it will not be a debate, but the Arnold show- Larry king last night was disusting.

5. I think the recall election will happen as scheduled

but I so much hope it doesn't. To see Ahnold have to pull off the role of political candidate for months instead of weeks, and without a script, just sounds too entertaining to pass up. Not to mention it stacks the deck heavily against him.

9. i don't get it

why are they boycotting the debate? even with the questions known in advance, the other candidates should be able to demonstrate their intellectual superiority. it doesn't seem fair to the voters for them to skip out on the one debate that Arnie agreed to. it seems like a cheap stunt, one that will deprive the electorate of their one chance to see all the major candidates go head-to-head.

if this boycott happens, maybe the chicken suit guy should start haunting all these campaigns (of the boycotters).
