Cheney re-emerges as political force
http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/ssistory.mpl/front/2110252

WASHINGTON -- When the battle over an $87 billion plan to rebuild Iraq began turning against President Bush, the administration hauled out the big gun.
Vice President Dick Cheney, who is increasingly out of the secret, secure location that held him during much of the war with Iraq, was deployed to NBC's Meet the Press to make the case on Bush's behalf.

It was the latest example of a White House strategy for the targeted, judicious use of Cheney, who is now more visible, helping Bush move into campaign mode and selling both the president and his policies when Bush's own approval ratings are dropping.
"Among Republicans, Cheney is a rock star," said Rep. Kevin Brady, R-The Woodlands. "He is just so solid and so seasoned, and just a reassuring leader. People love him."

It's not just Republicans who like Cheney. A CNN/Gallup poll last summer found 54 percent of Americans overall held a favorable view of the vice president.

snip...

"I think no leader is good without a lot of counselors, and I see Cheney as one of the president's counselors," said Cathie Adams, president of the conservative Texas Eagle Forum. "I don't have faith in (Secretary of State) Colin Powell at all, and I am happy to see Cheney balancing that out."

Ok describing Dick Cheney as a Rock Star ...gives RockNRoll a bad name! ...and get ready to :puke: Republicans are such Robots!

24. Are they being sarcastic?
54% liked him, last summer? Before the war went bad? That is why they say he is well loved? Smoking crack, or being tongue in cheek. Can't decide which one they are attempting.

Edited on Sat Sep-20-03 11:19 PM by Flying_Pig
If there was ever a better reason to hate and totally despise Republcians, I can't think of it. The reptillian Cheney is perhaps one of the most evil and corrupt people to ever walk this earth, and this is who Republicans worship? Gawd help them, for they are all doomed to an eternity of wretched fire, ....or better yet, and rightly so,.... an eternity of Democratic administrations.

12. 54% had a favorable view of the Vice President (sic)
Of course, Vice Presidents generally stay out of sight. And Cheney, as we all know, has a predilection for secrecy.

So, the American people don't really know Cheney. When they get to know him, they we come to realize what a creep he is. He makes Spiro Agnew look like a paragon of virtue.

Those figures will drop.

27. You have to balance that report with this...
WASHINGTON - Faced with rising costs, sinking polls, unsympathetic allies, an increasingly skeptical Congress and potential splits in his political party, President Bush has begun to question the hard-line Iraq policies long championed by Vice President Dick Cheney and Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld.

snip...

The officials said Bush's chief political adviser, Karl Rove, was concerned about new polls that suggest sinking support for the president's handling of Iraq. Rove also is worried about a potential schism between traditional Republican conservatives wary of spending huge sums in Iraq and neoconservatives who want to remake not only Iraq but also Iran, Syria and the Israeli-Palestinian relationship. Even some of Bush's strong support from military families appears to be ebbing, one official said, as overseas tours are extended and casualties mount.

"The election is still ours to lose," one senior official said. "What's new is that some people now see ways we could do that, even against this field of Democrats."

28. This article should have run in "TIGER BEAT"
"With a better diet and more frequent workouts, Cheney has dropped a considerable amount of weight and appears in much better health than in 2001, when a pacemaker was installed in his chest. He has had four heart attacks, the earliest in 1978 and the most recent in 2001.

On the stump, Cheney maintains his unsmiling reserve and vocal monotone but often with a dash of self-deprecating humor."

I wonder what his favorite flavor of ice cream is?

I tried to read the whole thing but couldn't stop laughing.

Given that Bush's numbers were in the upper 60's then, that would me that Cheney's have to be in the 30's now...

Julie Mason is the type of reporter Michael Corleone was speaking of in "The Godfather" when, in planning to smear the reputation of Captain McCluskey, he asked Tom Hagen, "We have newspaper people on the payroll, don't we, Tom?"

Every time I read an obvious puff piece such as this one, I always think of that scene...

-----------------------------------------------------------------
ON EDIT: Be sure to watch 60 minutes tonight. Cheney and Halliburton to be spotlighted... won't that be interesting?
-----------------------------------------------------------------

BTW, I like that word "maw"... it just fits Cheney's snarly countenance.

maw < maw > (plural maws)

noun

1. animal’s mouth: the mouth, jaws, throat, or stomach of an animal, especially a carnivorous animal that devours food greedily

2. greedy person’s mouth: the mouth, throat, or stomach of a greedy person ( informal )

3. gaping hole: anything that seems like a gaping hole that devours things or people

40. I thought Cheney's MTP appearance was a disaster.
I watched it carefully on tape. Cheney adjusted his tie, stammered, even coughed loudly just before mentioning the $87 B for the first time. He kept shooting those classic sideways glances at Russert. Cheney looked shifty and desperate, like a man cracking up.

Then in the next couple of days there was serious negative fallout from the appearance. Cheney had understated his financial "interest" in Halliburton and overstated Saddam's links to 9/11.

So how did her new book go.....

"The bear was feeling quite cozy next to the kitten and he asked her to dress up in the flag. But the bear was very hungry and soon the kitten realized she was just PUSSY to the bear and the flag was just a prop. He WANTED her and as much as this dismayed her she couldn't resist his advances. The flag was too powerful for both of them."

"Now Pussy and Bear have gone night night."
