|
http://www.voanews.com/article.cfm?objectID=7780912C-67EA-4954-A00FE2860D218B06excerpt: The weekly news magazine Newsweek, in a poll released Saturday, finds Mr. Bush's approval rating on Iraq had fallen 6 percentage points since last week, to 46 percent. <snip> The Newsweek poll also found Mr. Bush's personal popularity had dropped to 51 percent, and that a majority of Americans - 57 percent - disapprove of his economic policies. 1. is Karl Rove losing his magic touch? |
|
This administration is starting to reek of total disarray. Pretty soon Iraq will look like a paragon of organization compared to this White House.

Bush is still at 51%.
Give ROve some credit. Look at what he has to work with. As long as he can continue to sell that lemon to half the people, he's doing very well.

...46% approve, 47% disapprove. Don't quote me on that though....fairly sure but possibly could have been some other issue.

23. That figure is based on the Newsweek Poll |
|
The truth is somewhere between Zogby and Gallup.
Given Bush's performance, 30% would be more appropriate. As Lincoln said, you can fool some of the people all of the time.

3. Now Doesn't It Make Sense to Nominate a No-Iraq Dem? |
|
For those of you keeping score at home, here are the Democratic candidates (listed in alphabetical order in each category):
Voted NO: Graham, Kucinich Contemporaneously Said They Would Vote NO: Braun, Dean, Sharpton On the Fence: Clark Voted YES: Edwards, Gephardt, Kerry, Lieberman
Footnotes: Clark is listed as "on the fence" because I can't find any quote contemporaneous with the Iraq vote which indicates his stance. Quite the opposite, actually, but I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt at this stage. If someone has a Clark quote or two I could point to from the time just before the Iraq Resolution vote, I'd appreciate it. Gephardt has since repudiated his own vote, saying, in effect, "Bush lied to me," and with 20-20 hindsight he would vote NO.

6. I Really Want Something Just Before the Vote |

You can say anything you want after the vote. Much harder to take a firm stand before the vote. That's what I'm looking for. Wish I had Lexis-Nexis. :-(

Did I misunderstand your point? Yes, if a quote just before the vote, I really would like to see that AP article.

8. I saw Clark speak soon after the invasion |
|
to a small crowd at UCF. It was a little difficult to tell where exactly he stood on the issue, but he DID indicate that it was a serious mistake to go it alone and isolate ourselves. He kept returning to the importance of working with our allies. He's very much the politician, because he so often can answer without an answer!(At least in this speech-where he spent most of it talking about the luxuries he had as NATO commander-drivers, limos, lear jets, helicopters, chatau in France, etc.-and how much he missed them)!

So Clark supported the war, that just means he was lied to like everyone else. Not a problem with me.

Funny, most of us here at DU could see through the lies... and so could the millions of people who marched against the war.
I guess that you are admitting that Clark really doesn't have any common sense... either that, or he is easily duped.

most people who opposed the war, including us at DU, opposed regardless of whether there were WMD's in Iraq or not. We opposed it because we knew it was evil to invade another country w/out provocation. These politicos were more focused on the WMD issue, I suppose (although I don't excuse them for that entirely), so given that they were lied to about the presence of WMD's, that's why they voted as they did. We all opposed it regardless of that issue.

22. And, I Should Add, We Opposed It... |
|
...Because opposing that war at that time was fighting for more (not less) national security, for keeping our nation safe from harm.
And we were right. Now we're in danger of getting badly bloodied, meaning that our enemies will think our military is weak and our resolve less than firm. They'll think we're beatable. And that's an extreme danger.

25. Yes they are believing their own press clippings |
|
Of course they no reason not to as the 'Murkan press has served them everything they want on a platter, from even before the Repube nomination.
Very scary that you don't get other opinions and other opinions about your opinions. Lots and lots of yes men at the White House and as we have seen when they don't get a yes they create their own 'yes men' (OSP) or they don't ask the question. They should have thought of that before going to the UN (for their own sake) and being pushed into an illegal war.

Given the chance, I would likely disapprove of the way he holds his beer bottle when the cameras aren't there.
What was it that Japanese Admiral said on Dec.7th? "I fear we have only awakened a sleeping giant"...

The media is going to try to ignore the rest of the candidates out of the race... the conglomerates prefer a candidate beholden to the DLC, than one driven by a grassroots campaign.

No I'm not making excuses I just don't think that this one issue should be the one and only litmus test for candidates. I am going to support and work for whoever is nominated but I would like the support that candidate who on the whole is the best.
Kerry? Clark?
I originally said it should be Kerry/Anderson but I am not too sure of that now. I know that Kerry is most electable but that too shouldn't be the end all issue either , why it isn't I'm not sure. The Dean thing is fine with me but the "Deanieboppers" (not accusing you of being one) need to thicken up their skin as criticisms from inside and outside the party are inevitable.
ON EDIT
WELCOME TO DU :hi:

Actually I've been around forever but rarely post. You are a familiar face... I've always liked the undies graphic.
Hey, I'll take Clark or Kerry over Bush anyday... but at this stage of the game there should be a lot of arguing about not just who can beat Bush, but who is ultimately going to be the best for the country.
No animosity intended to anyone supporting Clark but I will be arguing against his candidacy in favor of Dean.

I have stayed on the fence myself in regards to the candidates. However, I am interested in Clark for one very important reason, that being the Big Dog. He will be sorely needed to get this country back on track (as he did when he took office). Say what you like about Clinton, but he did one hell of a job in putting the country back together and if he endorses Clark I think it's because he knows Clark will do a repeat (with his help of course). However, I will remain on the fence for a while!

I am tempted to celebrate by donating $46 to the Dean campaign. But I just donated some and I am trying to wait until close to the end to donate more, because I really do not have that much and I am supposed to be saving up for a summer program that would enable me to see parts of the DNC Convention in Boston. But if you are planning to donate and have not already, celebrate this poll by donating>.
