Recall Candidates See Sprint to the Finish; New Poll Shows Davis Gaining
By Beth Fouhy Associated Press Writer
Published: Sep 21, 2003

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - With a federal judicial panel likely to reinstate the Oct. 7 date for the California recall election, Gov. Gray Davis and the candidates vying to succeed him are preparing for a final two-week campaign push.
A new poll showed the race tightening in Davis' favor.

An 11-judge panel of the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals will hear arguments Monday on whether to uphold a ruling by a smaller panel last week that the election must be postponed until six counties still using punch card ballots can upgrade to more reliable voting machines. (snip)

(snip) The best known Republican in the race, Arnold Schwarzenegger, was preparing to step into the spotlight for his first and - chances are - his only debate of the campaign Wednesday.

Schwarzenegger, who has called Wednesday's forum "the Super Bowl of debates," is preparing extensively for it, aides said. (snip/...)

1. What an idiot Adoplh is.
I have been saying this all along. Davis may look like Milque toast, but that's his ploy. he is a political animal. i think that he will win, again.

2. Me too - I agree
One of my friends who has covered him for years at the LA Times says to NEVER count out Davis - do so at your own peril.

3. Exactly, the Rethugs underestimated him Three Times Now!
Number one was his first election in 1998, then his re-election in 2002, and now his efforts to beat back their Nazi power grab!

4. I was for moving the recall to March....
thought that the panel of three made the correct
decision citing Bush v Gore and think that case
needs to be challenged in court with another state's
election BUT....
maybe this should just go on Oct. 7 and move this
mess to the history books.

5. Davis is a policy wonk
He'll rip Ahnold to shreds on the issues.

And then FOX and CNN will declare Ahnold the winner because he was so "charismatic".

6. And Davis' make-up will probably be all wrong!
Arnold could just do bodybuilding poses and not say a word and he would still win. Just like the bogus Bush brothers "debates".

8. The article said Davis is not debating....
But I don't understand why politicos are so damn sure the panel will reverse. Its a damn shame when you can predict what a court is going to do....not by the law and precident, but by the politics of the judges. Seems to me the three judge panel had it right. If California deemed those punch card systems disfunctional and ordered them replaced that doesn't mean they can use them for just one more election. It means they have to be replaced before the election. Whats the damn rush anyway? Its just a few more months. Courxe, I realize California looks idiotic the longer this goes on, but it is their state law. A dumb law, one easily subject to abuse, but they hafta change it if it embarrasses them.
