BYERS BACK - He's set to get Hoon's job - UK
STEPHEN Byers is about to return to the Cabinet as replacement for doomed Defence Secretary Geoff Hoon.

Byers, 50, who quit as Transport Secretary 16 months ago in a storm over spin, will bolster support for Tony Blair at a time when Chancellor Gordon Brown's backers are increasing in strength around the No10 table. Mr Hoon is widely expected to go after the Hutton inquiry over Dr David Kelly. Mr Byers has been exiled "long enough", said a senior source.

Mr Byers was forced out as Transport Secretary in May last year after a long-running row over "spin", triggered by the notorious September 11 email from Jo Moore.

1. Doubt it....
He's in a lot more trouble than is publicly acknowledged.*** But Blair has run out of Yes men and may mount a rearguard action to buttress his death throes cabbal.

***A number of his former neighbours in North London where he kept a pied a terre during his cabinet days, have compiled a dossier about the extent of Byers' nefarious dealings with local convicted felons and underworld characters associated with the IRA. Although these have so far been kept out of the public domain, it is widely accepted that the file will be passed to the police should a private lawsuit be rejected.

2. Byers the liar?
I doubt that even Blair is stupid enought to bring back Byers. He was crucified by the press last time he was in office as he was caught lying on numerous occasions and his spin doctor, Jo Moore was famed for her e-mail that 9/11 was "a good day to bury bad news".

If Blair has Byers back then that shows that he is not listening in the slightest and certainly not willing to confront the bad habits of lying and spinning that are the hallmarks of "new" labour.
