Janklow Speaks--First Time Since Accident
Representative Bill Janklow addressed his constituents Monday morning for the first time since August 16th - when he was involved in a fatal car-motorcycle crash near Trent. The accident claimed the life of cyclist Randy Scott of Hardwick, Minnesota, and left Janklow with head and hand injuries, as well as a legal quagmire.

The Congressman declined to discuss the case, saying it was a legal issue. He discussed his injuries, saying they would all heal. In addition to a broken bone in his hand, he suffered bleeding on the right side of his brain and some paralysis in his lower left leg. He is still suffering headaches, but they are getting better every day. Emotionally, he said, "It couldn't be tougher." But he added, "What happened to me is insignificant." He expressed sympathy for the family of Randy Scott, but stated "Saying I'm sorry to some people is just rhetoric." <snip>

<snip> Janklow also described his physical condition, and says he is getting better every day. Janklow described problems he has been having with his speech, along with some hearing loss. He also described some memory loss, as well as painful headaches. Janklow also has broken bones in his right hand and wears a brace. Because of his condition, Janklow has not driven since the crash. Despite his medical issues, Janklow says he feels effective as a Congressman, "If I wasn't effective, I'd quit, today".

When asked if he would run for a second term in Congress, Janklow said, "I have no idea". <snip>

2. Preliminary hearing later this week
Local legal talk is that he'll beat the felony charge.

4. Because of who he is?
Do the local lawyers think that Jerklow will get off because of who he is or because they think that the prosecutors do not have enough evidence to make the felony charge stick?

6. In South Dakota .....
they don't enforce laws they don't like. If you are one of the Ole Boys they either don't bring charges, don't prosecute....or if they do...and guilt is ascertained....there is little if any penalty imparted. Seeing as how Mr. Janklow appointed a hell of allot of judges in this state....impartiallity is gonna be damn hard to come by. They "can't" find him guilty of a felony...if they did he'd no longer be able to serve as a congressman under South Dakota state law.

No prosecutor in the State would move forward with any serious intention of convicting, unless he planned to hold his place as a prosecutor for his entire life. If he did convict...he would generate so much hostility among the judges which Janlow has appointed that he would never be able to successfully practice private law if he or she intended to do so, as some point in the future.

Here is an interesting link about Mr. Janklows history of "pardons and commutations". A proud South Dakota Republican tradition, which I am sure Mr. Janklow shall enjoy.

Only the Governor can Clear Record

If Mr. Janklow were "trailer trash" (60+% of our population) or an Indian...he'd be spending a little time in the big house....There is no doubt about it.

3. Tooooo fucking bad!
This whole story makes me want to puke. I have known many people like this weasel in my life. They put on the hair shirt but still think they can get out of the tight situation by playing with people's emotions. I will have no respect for this State if they keep him in office.

7. I saw him on CNN a short time ago
He's so full of himself, it's impossible to imagine he has any sense of concern or regret for what's he's done.

He even tried to dupe those attending his press conference by attempting to work up a sham tear, but it didn't pan out. Made him look even more devious than one could tolerate.

Welcome to D.U., agates! :hi:

9. he never was fit to serve
now he is even less so. He should be yanked unceremoniously out of the House. If he's as addled as he seems, he shouldn't be there. If he's faking it to gain sympathy, he shouldn't be there. What a worm's turd he is, not even being able to remember the name of the man he killed.
