$US87 billion enough to restore Iraq stability: Bremer

The US administrator for Iraq, Paul Bremer, insisted that the $US87 billion President George W Bush has requested from Congress will be enough to return order in the country.

In a television interview, Mr Bremer also told how Iraq has drastically changed since a US-led force overthrew President Saddam Hussein in April.

Congress will soon start debating whether to approve the $US87 billion of public money Mr Bush requested this month to police and rebuild Iraq over the next year.

Mr Bremer said "I am confident the $US87 billion will be sufficient to put Iraq on the path of stability".

Despite the almost daily attacks on US forces and symbols of the new authority, Mr Bremer insisted that the situation in Iraq has "dramatically" changed for the better.

Everyday Bremer stalls on returning government control to the Iraqis, he risks the loss of more troop deaths.

Our National Guard is as pissed as hell about being deployed for 16 months or longer. Their purpose for joining the Guard was so they wouldn't have to deploy. Do you think Bush would have joined the Guard if he had thought he'd had any chance of deploying? Hardly. Under the Bushie regime, the National Guard deployment will be longer than that of the active duty! Bush has guaranteed that our National Guard numbers will depreciate faster than Enron stock. Whose going to fill the gaps?

Events in Iraq are falling to shit. That's one thing we can all be "confident" of.

Probably not -- because the Bushistas have a definition of 'order' that involves ordering everyone else arround, while picking their pockets. And because the Bushistas have already given away far more than $87 billion to the rich. Still, the $87 billion would be a nice place to start. And Iraq could be rebuilt for far less -- if the U.S. would get out and stay out.

The reconstruction costs are estimated to be 50 - 75 bn (probably more). That is just reconstruction, there is also the 4bn per month cost of the army on top of that. So the 21bn that is set aside in the 87bn for reconstruction is just the first installment.

"on the path" is NOT the same as "reaching the goal"
