Davis Signs Landmark Partners Bill
Edited on Mon Sep-22-03 07:08 PM by QC
In the midst of a fight for his political survival, California Governor Gray Davis signed a bill on Friday giving gay and lesbian domestic partners a host of new rights formerly restricted to opposite-sex married couples.

Hailed by gay civil rights advocates as a historic leap forward, the law was signed before a cheering crowd of some 600 people assembled at the San Francisco Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Community Center.

...

All 32 Republicans in the 80-member California Assembly voted against the measure.
