Ex-prison escapee runs for mayor in Maryland
A man who escaped from a Southern Michigan Prison farm in 1979 is running for mayor of Hagerstown, Md., under an assumed name.

Roger Dean Weber, 60, is on Tuesday's Republican primary election ballot as Charlie Baker. He said he chose the name in the late 1970s when "some issues came up in town."

He filed for a legal name change in December in Washington County, Md. It has not been granted.

Reached by telephone Wednesday, Weber asked a reporter to downplay his past until after the election. "Call me back next week and do a story on 'Hometown boy makes good,' " he said.

2. That Must Be Why He Escaped... Surrounded By All Them Libruls
"My personal experience has given me insight into how things are done down here," he said. "These people need guidance."

Weber, now Charlie Baker, said he will not discuss his criminal past with voters or the local media.

4. Thanks for the laugh, that is too funny.
I live in Frederick, MD, just a stones throw away. Here in FredNeck we have our own dopey moron Republicans. Currently some of the Republican Alderman are filing a lawsuit to try to change the residency requirements to run for Mayor of the city because they don't like the Democratic mayor, a woman who stands up to the them in council meetings. The smokescreen is that they need to make the change to allow better candidates for mayor to be able to run.

Wonder if this is the type of candidate they were looking to find.

8. Be fair. He chose "Baker" because "Weber" was hard to pronounce.
Heh. "Some issues came up in town." Too funny. Maybe he could get a day pass to the WH press gaggle.
