Patriot Act Used In 16-Year-Old Deportation Case
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A49517-2003Sep22.html

The Bush administration has decided to pursue a 16-year-old effort to deport two Palestinian activists who as students distributed magazines and raised funds for a group the government now considers a terrorist organization, despite several court rulings that the deportations are unconstitutional because the men were not involved in terrorist activity.

5. Tom Delay responds:
How dare you criticize Ashcroft! He is a fine man! Why he oughta send you to Cuba so you can sleep with the rest of your Taliban friends!

*Note: This is in reference to Delay's hissy fit over Howard Dean criticizing the Patriot Act.

9. Oh, thank you! I used to have that poster, posted in my bathroom.
I don't know what happened to it. Now, at least, I have an image of it.

11. Thank goodness its still there and I hadn't just imagined it.
It is stories like this that make me think I have slipped into another parallel universe in which the US Constitution had never been passed. I am relieved to know that others have seen and read our constitution and that I had not just hallucinated it.

I find it truly incredible that the "legal wizards" of this administration have forgotten the ex post facto clause even though any third grade civics student knows about the prohibition against passing a law punishing conduct long after its occurrence.
Lets face it, this is yet another renegade action by an outlaw administration with absolutely no respect for the rule of law. Zero. More evidence that to them the constitution, the bill of rights and laws are only matters "for the little people" to be concerned with not them.

12. Don't Be So Sure About The Third Grade Civics
student comment. I never even heard of ex post facto until my firstyear of CJ in college. Hell, that was back when schools actually taught something. In today’s America I'm sure people think that prosecuting someone ex post facto is a grand idea.

13. just think how much fun it would be..
to make use of this precedent to retroactively charge Shrub and his thugs and thieves with laws passed in 2005.

I often ponder how do you 'undo' any of the massive damage these people are doing down the road -- the billions of dollars lining the pockets of their friends and family members. And I think, there should be a big warning from the American people, that when the regime changes in Washington, we the people will want our money back.
