Bomb Rips Into Buses in Baghdad
Edited on Wed Sep-24-03 06:02 AM by Mari333
homemade bomb exploded Wednesday along a road in the Iraqi capital, missing a U.S. military patrol but killing at least one Iraqi and injuring 23 others as it destroyed two civilian buses, police said.

The attack took place in the Kazimiyah district, a commercial and residential neighborhood in north-central Baghdad. The American vehicles escaped damage but two buses were caught by the blast, according to Iraqi police Lt. Awas Ibrahim.

CBS New Correspondent Allen Pizzey reports that the location of the bombing in a rather upscale Baghdad suburb makes it unusual.

1. Unfortunately, if thing keep on going like they have, it won't be
"unusual" anymore.

4. It appears the true targets were the US vehicles
so it wasn't actually a bus bombing but rather a misdirected assault on the US. I guess in the terrorists minds this is the same as friendly fire. I wonder if the relatives of the victims on the bus feel the same way.

6. There Is A Possible Twist, Sir
"Upscale neighborhood" means one largely inhabited by Ba'athist Sunnis; these are the natural target of Shia militias such as the Sadr forces. There are many, many reasons for people to be killed in Iraq today.

7. You mean it could be against the ousted Bath party?
A retaliation attack for past actions?

9. It Is Possible, Sir
There is not sufficient evidence here to draw any firm conclusion.

2. again discrediting the WMD claims
homemade bomb exploded Wednesday

Haven't pretty much all the attacks been with small arms and homemade bombs? You'd think the "bitter-enders" (as Bremer likes to call them) would be breaking out the big guns.......

5. Boy, that sounds like Israel.
The difference is we have yet to get a large population of "white people" in Iraq. Once we can do that, telling friend from foe will be easy. We can just fence off all the dark skinned people. If they head on over to the white areas, well we know they are up to no good.

10. "More than 60 percent of Baghdad residents think getting rid of Saddam"
"was worth all the hardships they've had to endure since the war. And two-thirds think their country will be better off five years from now than it was before the U.S. invasion. Only eight percent think it'll be worse off. But the Iraqis aren't convinced Iraq is better off now -- 47 percent surveyed say the country is worse off than before the invasion, while 33 percent say it's better off."

What's up with that?

11. NPR this morning Chirac would beat W in an Iraqi election 2 to 1
Thos e same numbers were cited in that story. Eventually I would think Iraq will be better off, mostly. Of course there will be terrorist attacks also so innocent people will be hurt as they were here.
