Diebold takes down blackboxvoting.org (UK)

US election fraud? Perish the thought!

By Egan Orion: Wednesday 24 September 2003, 11:27

DIEBOLD ELECTION SYSTEMS has brandished lawyers' threats to take down that pesky citizens activist website blackboxvoting.org. It seems they charged copyright infringement regarding materials on other websites that blackboxvoting.org merely linked to, despite such links having been ruled legal by appellate courts in other instances.
This appears to be a public relations gaffe of staggering proportions on Diebold's part. It's not like bunging the terms "Diebold election fraud" into Google brings up only that blackboxvoting.org site -- just it and about 1,889 other hits, including a recent story at Salon, another at Wired, and two pieces here at the INQUIRER, as well as articles in major news publications. What can they be thinking? µ

1. Here's the Email I just sent my SoS because of this action...
Edited on Wed Sep-24-03 12:52 PM by Patriot_Spear
and I sent it to several state news outlets

Ms. xxxxxx,

Almost a month ago, you graciously forwarded my E-mail to Secretary xxxxx about concerns on the stability of our state’s Diebold voting machines and their vulnerability to being hacked. Since that time, further concerns have been reported, for example- Diebold has accessed a voting machine’s tabulation remotely- while an election was in progress; has known of serious gaps in machine security for quite some time; and has been shown, though a series of internal E-mail’s, to be aware of a stability problem which resulted in a negative vote count of several thousand votes.

Most people are unaware that our state does not have a hard copy verification process for our Diebold machines, and I’m certain they are unaware of the mounting evidence of these machines’s vulnerability.

Diebold Election Systems Inc. has now taken legal action against every website that has reported this information and the supporting documentation; in particular the voting advocacy website http://www.blackboxvoting.org . A cynical person might conclude that Diebold is trying to suppress evidence.

My next action will be to canvass our state media outlets as well as all the relevant public advocacy groups for support in making these issue a matter of public debate.

The veracity of our voting system should be of paramount concern to every person, and in this regard I will pursue all avenues to make sure this subject has the attention it merits.

Best personal regards,

xxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxx

3. Evil bastards - if you can't stand the truth, then silence it

I sure hope that the sons of bitches are content with taking down the website and don't continue to go after Bev for further damages.

And I also hope that the voting accountability movement has enough momentum that this action by Diebold will be seen as the petty and useless act that it is.

16. Great flash symbolman! One of the many points made . . .
. . . in your movie that smacked me upside the head with a much needed epiphany was the one about ATMs.
FUCK! HELLO! There is absolutely no excuse for this evil diabolical chicanery that the BFEE and Diebold
are trying to perpetrate. Not only did they already get away with it once in 2000 but if the people don't wake
up soon, 2004 is in the very same peril. I can't stand that people are standing by for this no receipt bullshit
when it comes to their voice in an election. You should make a mini flash movie that emphasizes the ATM
point and make it available to every living breathing human being. Send a mass email. Something. Shit. . .
The banks sure as shit would never get away with this type of shoddy accounting. If money was treated with
the same apathy as the american vote, the repukes would be up in arms. And come to think of it, isn't Diebold
somehow involved with the banking system and ATMs? I know they have something to do with credit cards.
Shit. What fucking liars. The people need to demand accountability for their votes. I'll bet this corruption
would have been identified immediately if Gore had somehow pulled it off in 2000. I don't see how electronic
voting can ever be free of corruption. I'll shut up now. EOR

13. I'm sorry to have to shout this, but
IF BLACKBOXVOTING IS NOT MIRRORED ON THE FRIGGIN' FREENET BY THIS POINT, AND THE WWW VERSION BECOMES INACCESSIBLE, SOMEONE SHOULD BE SLAPPED. THE FREENET CANNOT BE CENSORED.

End of yelling. PLEASE, Bev and co. - get thee on the freenet:

http://freenet.sourceforge.net/

and get the info. up where it cannot be de-upped by the powers that be havin' the power. C'mon now - just do it!

15. Hi short bus president . . .
I had never heard of freenet so I just checked it out.
The concept and philosophy appears sound and from
what I could tell, it looks like a good alternative to
censorship and a viable option for BBV.

Thanks for the link. :hi:

The boards of many of these companies are dominated by top donors to the Republican Party, former high ranking military officers, and several ex-CIA directors. The CIA directors include: James Woolsey, Bobby Ray Inman, and John Deutch, and as mentioned before, Robert Gates and Frank Carlucci. The CIA, it should be remembered, has a decades-long track record of assisting in the brutal overthrow of democratically elected governments around the world.

(Diebold) Electronic vote not up to speed

Electronic voting produced results no faster than old-fashioned paper ballots last night in Toledo’s City Council primary.
