Top U.S. commander predicts more fighting (Sanchez)

The top U.S. military commander in Iraq predicts fighting there is likely to intensify in the future, and possibly continue until the Americans leave.

Lt. Gen. Ricardo Sanchez, in an exclusive interview with Knight-Ridder Newspapers, said the "Sunni Triangle" west of Baghdad has been the site of the fiercest attacks on American soldiers in recent months and attacks there are likely to intensify during coming weeks.

Sanchez, however, said he believes the coalition forces are winning the war, and that most of the Iraqi people are behind them.
