Miss America to hold pageant for teenage girls
ORLANDO, Fla. -- The Miss America Organization made its new, spin-off pageant for teenage girls official on Wednesday.

Miss America's Outstanding Teen, a pageant for girls 13 to 17 years old, will be held in August in Orlando. It will pit state winners against one another in talent and evening wear _ but not swimsuit _ competitions.
...
The announcement comes at a crucial time for the organization. The Miss America pageant's ratings have been declining for years, with last year's show on ABC attracting a record-low 9.8 million viewers.

ABC dumped the pageant in October, and no other network has of yet stepped forward to broadcast this year's event.

1. Just shy of kiddie porn.
That'll give a shot to the ratings.

3. Ratings are tanking .. Time for underage fantasies...
Just like with the music industry and television. They stick a hot little **underage** 13-17 year old on a sitcom or an album cover and BOOM! you got profits!

Back to the Shiavo distraction.......

6. There's also an "active wear" portion of this contest...
...that will feature these teenagers in "workout clothes" or "fitness wear".

They're touting the idea that these girls, some of them as young as 13, won't be wearing swimsuits. However, they can wear skimpy workout clothes. So, what's the difference?

The contest is a silly idea, but to parade these girls on television seems a bit creepy.

15. The reason for no ss competition isn't just because they're younger
This is in the Canadian press- dozens of US papers will carry what reads like a press release.

snip>
One major difference is that there will be no swimsuit competition, as pageant organizers did not think it fair that 13-year-olds and 17-year-olds would be competing against one another in swimsuits.

10. Swimsuits = ratings
plain and simple. I dare them to do it.

Who needs Miss America anyway, with Girls Gone Wild infomercials playing constantly?

11. Yes girls
go be sexy beyond your years or understanding. Dress provocatively. Tease and amuse us. Just remember, no fucking until you are married.

That's one show that neither my son nor my daughter will EVER be allowed to watch!

13. GAG - as much as I miss the food and weather from the South
the bible thumpers and these damn pageants for every age imaginable were the worst! I'm talking babies in floats in parades "little Miss Pampers" "little Miss ...." BABIES!!!

And my favorite were the boys being entered in pageants by moms who didn't have daughters to parade around.

18. "I- I- I don't get off on that kinda thing"
Thinking of John Dough, the head judge in the Mount Rose Miss Teen Princess Pageant in "Drop Dead Gorgeous" — the judge who wasn't into teenage girls. Uh-huh...

(The one in the middle... who's a spot-on ringer for a former boss of mine, who also wasn't into teenage girls...)

"Nope. No. Uh-uh. Never judged a pageant before in my life. Nope. No way. Never around young girls. Even if I was, why would I wanna be, y'know? I- I- I don't get off on that kinda thing and that's really why you're askin', right?... S- someone say somethin'?"
