Kerry says T-shirts show GOP's antigay bigotry

Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry is appealing for donations in an E-mail accusing college Republicans of allowing the sale of racist and antigay T-shirts at a convention this summer. "I need you to join me in showing we reject the divisive politics some in the GOP are passing on to a new generation of Republicans," Kerry wrote in the E-mail Thursday, also posted on his campaign Web site.

The E-mail includes a photo of the shirts. One reads, "No Muslims, No Terrorism." Another features a photo of black filmmaker Spike Lee with the message "Bring back the blacklist." A third shows a photo of lesbian TV personality Rosie O'Donnell and her partner with the line "Mr. (?) and Mrs. (?) Rosie O'Donnell." Another reads, "The Clinton Legacy," accompanied by an image of the World Trade Center after a plane had crashed into it.

Kerry's E-mail said that the T-shirts were displayed and sold at the College Republicans National Convention in Washington, D.C., in July. "The divisive slogans and graphic pictures are not to be laughed off as campaign rhetoric--they are racist, antigay, and violent," Kerry wrote. "I support the First Amendment, and I am using my right to free speech to protest their politics of division. But our protest must come in actions, not words. Click here to contribute now."

2. the republican party is disgusting
i know not all of them are nasty and bigoted. but many of them are and their base certainly is. why don't the moderates in the party speak out against them ? i get disgusted and ashamed at those ecoterrorist people who burn suvs and homes for using violent methods to push for a cause we also support. but this is far more common in the gop and it's accepted.

4. Thats right
SOMEONE needs to stand up to the scourge of this horrible T-shirt calamity, I'm glad JFK took the extraordinary step of single-handedly stepping up to the plate on this issue. Talk about bold! I feel so much better now. Glad he could find the time from his busy schedule of trash talking Howard Dean.

19. He called for Rumsfeld to resign last night.
And exposed the BFEE on BCCI, IranContra and CIA drugsmuggling. He also worked on the Kyoto Accord for 10 years with other world leaders. He also helped craft the CHIPS legislation which extended healthcare to children of every state, which HELPED Dean in Vermont.

You want to point to trashtalk? Dean started attacking the others last January, and attacked Kerry even while he was off the campaign trail after cancer surgery. Nice doctor.

28. I'm glad he's calling attention to this
I've always despised the College Republicans, but I've never heard of them doing something this offensive.

I'm sure there are other people like me, and thanks to Kerry we now know more about the true nature of the College Republicans.

5. Vile.
Simply vile. Every time I think I've seen how low the ditto monkeys can go, one of them lowers the bar.

This isn't just isolated either, I've had run ins with college Repukes on campus, and trust me most of them would snap up these shirts in a heartbeat. I was taking a Western Religion course at the time of 9/11 and a Muslim classmate had "raghead terrorist" keyed into her car. Turned out it was a college Repuke, not that anyone was surprised. I think evolution passed these guys over.

16. My general idea
Organizing walk-arounds at the sites where those RW shirts are being sold, as a form of reaction. Just people walking around with shirts like the ones I described, to piss them off. Since I live in a faraway place (see post below), all I can do is make suggestions. What do you think?

20. Nothing wrong with self-defense!
Hey, if you're attacked, then fight back--just make sure you can win! There's nothing wrong with brawling in the streets for a rightwous cause, if it's in self-defense of one's own rights. Being gay and being a progressive, I know there are those who would like to launch an actual genocide in this country, but how do we fight it? By standing our ground in the streets, and organizing everywhere to fight back! That's just a thought from a pro-second amendment progressive.

14. Salon had an article that mentioned
the t-shirts at the convention a while back, July 28,
Salon.com - Shock Troops for Bush

I think the "No Muslims No Terrorism" is the sickest one because it alludes to genocide. It seeks to evoke a primitive two-valued view of the world in order to rationalize and justify hate and rascism. That's my perspective on it.

21. I sometimes think it would be amusing...
...to make up some tees that are even MORE outrageous and offensive (past the right-wing fringe, you see) and attend GOP events wearing them.
Piss the GOPs off and try to get on TV coverage, posing as Repubs with really offensive tees on.
However, I'm having a tough time thinking of any slogans that are worse than what they're already pedding?

"Stone adulterers?
"Nuke Paris now?"
"Bring back witch-burning?"
"Kill liberals?" (with a word balloon above the image of Ann Coulter?

I guess that's a start.....
