Dean, Kerry call on Rumsfeld to quit
Defense secretary accused of ‘pattern of deception’ on Iraq

Democratic presidential candidates Howard Dean and John Kerry have called for Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld to resign, citing a “pattern of deception” in his statements on Iraq and a failure to plan for the postwar period.

KERRY, A SENATOR from Massachusetts, first said Thursday that Rumsfeld should step down, saying he proceeded in Iraq “in an arrogant, inappropriate way that has frankly put America at jeopardy.”
Dean, the former governor of Vermont, joined the call Friday and added Deputy Defense Secretary Paul Wolfowitz to the list of those who should quit. Dean announced that he was starting a national petition drive on the Internet to demonstrate support for their resignations.
Christine Iverson, a spokeswoman for the Republican National Committee, said Dean and Kerry were “playing a game of political copycat. If John Kerry calls for one administration official to resign, Howard Dean has to call for two.”

14. Rove is stupid. His own strategy is to attack at all costs.
That's what the Dems need to do too. The strategy doesn't work in the long run (thus Bush's growing unpopularity after 2-3 years), however, in the runup to an election, with only a little over a year left, go for it. As long as you don't run out of the proverbial "gas," you'll be fine. They attack you, you attack them back. Attack, attack, attack. Keep them on the defensive.
That's what the Repukes have done to the Dems for the past 7 years. They've kept them on the defensive.
It's time to turn that around. Really, it's Bush that's overplayed his hand. Severely. And now he's going to pay for it.

2. "political copycat"? again, how Nixonian
Once again we see BushCo not denying anything, just attacking the critics as "copycats."

What a mind-f*k it would be if all ten candidates would agree mongst themselves to speak with one voice on certain matters--like this one.

6. Maybe not Bush, but there's a good case for Cheney to resign.
He is up to his neck in this. He went to the CIA every day to twist arms and make sure the reports came out the way he wanted them to... i.e. WRONG! And there's the Teapot Dome 2003 scandal.

But Dr. Dean , I will sign it!

5. Rumsfeld could be reassigned; say as ambassador to Afghanistan or Pakistan
with a reduced staff. Wolfowitz can be his secretary and security guard and....

that should take care of that..

10. "If Kerry calls for one, Dean has to call for two..."
I like political copycat! I think they should keep one-upping each other until they have them ALL called out.

"I'll see your Wolfowitz and raise you Cheney!"
"All right laughing boy...how about Perle, Powell, AND Condi Rice?"
"I'm throwin' in Bush, now put up or shut up!"

You know what would be cool, would be if Kerry and Dean were actually empowered to fire these people...but we can dream.

C ya,

The Plaid Adder

15. You're not even counting the chess games.
A good chess player will always resign before being checkmated(against a worthy opponent).

16. Where's Daschle?
The -real- issue is accountability.

After 9/11 there -should- have been investigations, recriminations, finger-pointing. And some officials--fairly or not--taken out and shot (figuratively).

-Somebody- obviously screwed up both times--before 9/11 and in planning for Iraq. In normal times it is just understood that after a major disaster, heads will roll.

These ain't normal times. But maybe we are seeing the beginnning of an actual political opposition.
