Medco probe likely to deepen

Pharmacy co. likely to face fraud charges after U.S. Attorney files civil complaint early next week.

CHICAGO (Reuters) - Troubled pharmacy company Medco Health Solutions Inc. will likely wade into hotter legal waters next week as U.S. prosecutors plan to charge the company with defrauding the government, analysts said.

The U.S. Attorney in Philadelphia is set to file a civil complaint by Tuesday, joining whistle-blowers charging Medco with fraud, steering patients to pricier drugs, and destroying records.

The filing follows a four-year investigation into practices of pharmacy benefit managers, or PBMs. The probe has dragged on without convictions or settlements, and investors have become blase about the charges.
