Noted N.H. Republican endorses Democrat Dean
By ANNE SAUNDERS

Associated Press Writer

CONCORD, N.H. (AP) — Democrat Howard Dean’s stance against the war in Iraq has brought him supporters from across party lines in New Hampshire.

Hilary Cleveland of New London, wife of the late Congressman James Cleveland, and a prominent campaigner for both President Bushes, is helping organize a Republicans for Dean movement.

Dean announced the names of 40 Republicans who will serve on a steering committee. Cleveland says she’s been a lifelong Republican, but will switch her registration to independent so she can vote for Dean in the presidential primary.

Cleveland was the New London co-chair for George W. Bush’s 2000 campaign and was the state finance chair Bush’s father in 1980

2. AAAHH!
Ahhh! He must be a Republican plant by Rove! After all, Rove did say that Dean was the one they wanted!

..

Sorry, couldn't help myself. In all seriousness, this is a good thing; the more moderate Repubs we can get, the more likely we are to take those Red states in 2004.

(As an random tangent inspired by it being 2am, does anyone else consider it really, really odd that Republicans are red? I mean, yeah, it starts with the same letter, but red typically denotes communism, and we all know where the Repubs stand on that..)

4. From all the basic (Western) color theory classes
red also symbolizes hate, anger, and violence.Blue is generally used for a calmer, more serene outlook.:-)

6. Red makes sense.
They accuse us of being communists, but they are the party of brainwashed groupthinkers. Some of those losers on FR remind me of the 60's Maoists who needed their little Red Book (substitute RNC talking points)to recite the Party line.

But this is a great sign indeed. A former campaigner for both Bushes in NH!

The way things are going, we may find almost as many Republicans voting in the Democratic primaries as Democrats....afterall, they all will probably want their own say as to which Democrat is elected President of the United States.

10. I saw a freeper complain about Red status in an AOL room
He was in full freep mode, just a Bush'n this and Iraq'n that, while visions of Clinton' penis, cloned into great Penile armies, goose stepped through the windmills of his mind, when suddenly he stopped. It was as if he had had his first actual synaptic firing of the day, for he began to grumble about how Republicans lost the coin toss when team colors were chosen.

Waaa...I feel your pain, freeper. Get over it.

I like blue. Blue is loyal (true blue), and soulful (else how could you sing the blues?)

11. I don't think Rove really wants Dean to be our nominee
Because if he did, he would not come out and say it. I think he said it because he wants to intimidate Dean's supporters into abandoning him and backing the candidate Rove really wants Bush to run against. I have a theory about who it is but I am not sure yet, so I am not going to start a big fight.

13. Red - for all that red ink, too!
Yeah, I'm glad the color blue is associated with the Dems. Besides, it's my favorite color anyway. True Blue! The color of the sky and calm seas. As opposed to the color of blood and anger. Karma-wise, I'll take blue over red any day.

7. oh, I seriously doubt it's Dean's anti-war stance
He isn't against the war, for starters. He thinks it could have been handled better.

It's everything else Dean stands for that has woo'd these repukes.

It wouldn't be very smart for the repukes to tout Dean's conservative policy stances; it might scare real democrats away from Dean, and lord knows the repukes want our votes for Dean.

15. Dean's "evolving position" on the war
Here's his answer to the question "what does Bush have to do to prove Saddam's a threat to US security" a few weeks before the invasion:

I don't think he really has to prove anything. I think that most Americans, including myself, will take the president's word for it. But the president has never said that Saddam has the capability of striking the United States with atomic or biological weapons any time in the immediate future.

And some more

My question is not that we may not have to go into Iraq. We may very well have to go into Iraq. What is the rush? Why can't we take the time to get our allies on board? Why do we have to do everything in a unilateral way?
...
My problem is not whether we're going to end up in Iraq or not. Saddam Hussein appears to be doing everything he can to make sure we do go into Iraq. My problem is, it is important to bring in our allies.

From FTN.
[br />Hardly a black-and-white anti-war position. Which is commendable, I think. But he has not been the simplistic, blanket, anti-war paragon people seem to want to portray him as. Thank goodness.

9. Dean is anti-NAFTA
...where he used to support it. *I* used to support it... now I hate it.

He's not very conservative, although willing to cut some corners to fund high-priority items like child healthcare.

He's an austere liberal. He's also touting internation labor standards in a national campaign, and that takes balls!

12. I always said he was a crypto-Republican!
Actually, no I didn't. Actually, I think this is really good news. But if his name was Clark, I'd be seeing lots of people weighing in with that subject line.

14. Very good news..people are simply tired of it all
I am being thanked for my "Bush Lied People Died" and my "Impeach Bush" bumperstickers vs being flipped off/eye rolling, about 4 to 1 now!
To me it's so sad that the ones being agressive and flipping me off are the right age to be drafted into bush's endless wars.
