Singapore hangs two drug traffickers
Singapore executed two convicted Malaysian drug traffickers yesterday, despite appeals for clemency from lawyers and a human rights group.

Vignes Mourthi, 23, was found guilty of drug trafficking last year after his arrest in September 2001 for smuggling 27 grams of heroin. The other man, Moorthi Angappan, was convicted of helping him.

Anyone caught in possession of more than 15 grams of heroin in Singapore faces the death penalty.

At the crematorium yesterday, distraught relatives climbed into the hearse carrying Mourthi's body, opened the casket and began beating his chest, trying to revive him. His mother, Kumari, took out a white towel and wiped her son's neck and face.

He was smuggling what was about the size of 1/2 of a McCrap hamburger patty. Ok, I can live with this if you have the same sentence for CEO who steal, politicians who are corrupt or lie, and world leaders who commit Crimes Against humanity, and Media Whores who lie.

1. It's a different country
with different laws. We must respect the traditions and mores of other cultures. This is a Muslims country, and they are pretty strict.

that being said, it is a very harsh sentence.

2. It's in bold red letters on Singapore's entry visas:
The penalty for trafficking in drugs is death.

Verb sap.

3. It might not seem like that much, but 27 grams/ half a burger patty is...
a LOT of juice. Just one gram's a buttload of money, but 27?

"27???"

"In a row?"

Heh, sorry. Clerks flashback.

That said, I could care less about the drug trade, and that people should be free to abuse their bodies as they want, as long as I can make the occasional autoerotic asphyxiation joke.

Public hangings are more suited for gold-collar criminals, the ultra-executives who fuck thousands so they can add a few more zeroes to their abstract worth. Or the lying administration.

10. I don't think that public hangings are suited
for pretty much anyone.

5. Can't save some folks from their own foolishness
Obviously they thought the risk (moving drugs) was worth the reward (money). They lost. Tough.

Singapore's laws (rules) are clear and explicit. If you wanna be the rebellious-type, Singapore ain't the place to test the waters. Ask the American kid who got caned for spraypainting stuff awhile back.

9. Michael Fay was his name.
It was Thursday, May 5, 1994. The Draconian sentencing of an American, Michael Fay, over a minor graffiti infraction - four months in the infamous Changi prison, a $2200 fine, and six strokes of the cane- was world news then. Although Fay’s sentence had been upheld on appeal, and the caning reduced to four strokes by Singapore's President Cheong two days earlier, it was thought that the caning portion of the sentence would be not be carried out for weeks (if ever).

7. It's almost a joke,
hanging malaysians is practically their national sport, but it's almost a joke because they practically look the other way to drug traffiking by others to avoid a diplomatic nightmare, as it is no one cares if you hang malaysians.

They have hanged like 80 people this year,

But it's really taboo, if you bring up the topic people get very uncomfortable and try to change the subject,

ofcourse comming down hard of traffikers is pointless, because the kingpins are out of reach a billion miles away and couldn't care less.
