Sheep docking? Not yet

http://www.theage.com.au/articles/2003/09/27/1064083242294.html

A shipment of more than 50,000 Australian sheep are expected to remain stranded at sea after the Federal Government ruled out reports that they would be unloaded in Iraq yesterday.

Agriculture Minister Warren Truss said reports that the MV Cormo Express would dock in the war-torn country yesterday to unload its sheep cargo were wrong.

"Reports that a deal has been done and that the Cormo Express will dock in Iraq . . . to unload its cargo of live sheep are incorrect," he said in a statement.

"The Australian Government and industry continue to be involved in a number of sensitive negotiations with a number of countries and organisations in an endeavour to arrange a suitable destination for the sheep as soon as possible."

1. These sheep aren't ship-shape...
Could have implications on the indigineous sheep population. Maybe, the could quarantine them but what would be the precautions that none of them go on the lamb..

2. Which in turn brings up serious questions about sheep shipping.
How many sheep should a sheep shipper ship
if a sheep shipper does ship sheep?

8. I'm sorry, but this just isn't funny
The shipping of live animals like this is a disgrace and it should be stopped. We don't know what the conditions are like aboard that ship, but I can't imagine they'd be anything less than horrendous right now.

50,000 sheep in the heat of the gulf, packed in with probably very little fresh air, the smell of ammonia from the urine must be overwhelming, and the feces is probably knee-deep.

They're dying now. How many more will die in this horrible trade, just so that they can be slaughtered in the correct way by religious fanatics?

9. A Metaphor For Murkins
Collectively, we are a shipload of sheep (that's down several notches from Morrison's Ship Of Fools) haplessly drifting toward whatever fate bu$h's puppet masters have in mind for us.

As soon as the highest bidder can be found, we become mutton and wool with hardly a bleat. Enjoy!

10. Hey there dbt, got a question for you
SInce you used the term Murkins, I assume that you know what a murkin is? If not, get back to me and I'll tell ya. (Think Shakespeare). You'll love it, if you don't already know.

12. I am painfully aware of what Murkin means :-)
Edited on Sun Sep-28-03 11:36 AM by dbt
I use the term as a corruption of the 'Amurican' mispronunciation of the word American that seems to be so popular with the knuckle draggers. Somehow, it seems to fit.

It gives me the giggles to know that there are at least two of us here who are in on the cover-up!

Cheers,

PS: I know about 'sheep docking,' too. I think about things like these whenever I hear someone talk about "servicing" a client.
