Khomeini’s grandson urges George Bush to intervene in Iran

http://www.dailytimes.com.pk/default.asp?page=story_28-9-2003_pg4_14

WASHINGTON: A grandson of Iran’s late Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, Hossein Khomeini, called on US President George W Bush on Friday to intervene by force against Iran’s ruling clerics who were installed by his grandfather.

“Mr. Bush should act like Churchill when he gathered around him the British population to fight against Hitler,” Hossein said in reference to Britain’s World War II Prime Minister Winston Churchill. The grandson of the founding father of the modern-day Islamic republic spoke at the American Enterprise Institute here, a conservative Washington think-tank. Asked if he thought the exiled son of Iran’s late Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi should return to Iran, Khomeini replied: “Anyone who has the power to lead Iranians into freedom should be there, no matter who.”

Iran’s royal family was forced into exile in 1979 following an Islamic revolution which overthrew the Shah.

5. The stupid AWOL regime.....
has already proven how gullable they are
in believing such crap. Sure everyone over
there is going to greet the liberators with
flowers and chants of love.

This time I want AWOL to enlist HIS children
and tell them how wonderful they are for fighting
the cause of freedom. How many billions more
will we be sending over there while our people
keep getting the shaft?

9. This guy saw how easy it was for Chalabi and his group and had to
figure it would be even easier for him.

And the neocons are bringing him to Washington to stir the pot. This is bothersome to say the least.

12. NeoCon Trial Balloon
Remember how long we had Chalabi and other Iraqi exiles paraded before us as the "New" Iraq. It was part of the orchestrated sham that resulted in the invasion. Are we starting to see the same "cult of personalities" happening for Iran?

There's a lot of GOOP Iranian money out of California (including several who own satellite stations in suburban LA that supposedly beam to an audience inside Iraq) that is fronted by the Shah's son, and I'm certain many of the BFFE buddies.

Chalabi's gone over like a fart in a spacesuit here and in Iraq, and the NeoCon's don't want to make the same mistake again...thus they aren't trotting out the son of the Shah. But how about one from Khomeni...a new twist on the old Arabic saying "a friend of an enemy is a friend of mine"...GOOP standard foreign policy, no?

16. Billy_Pilgrim, We Think Way Too Much Alike!
My first thought as I saw this story was: Chalabi!

This story didn't just happen in a vacuum. Bush is gunning for Iran.

Sharon wants it.
The neo-cons want it.
Even Dick Morris is saying it's the best way for Bush to get people's minds off of Iraq is to invade Iran.

So now Khomeini’s grandson is asking the U.S. to act setting up the impression that there's a groundswell for an American invasion.

What utter crap!

CPut this with the transition in scare tactics to rape rooms and sex trade... I really am afraid that they are wanting to move in a PNAC direction...

A son of the Shah? We've all heard how beloved HE was. I only found out what kind of beastie the Shah was, AFTER HE DIED, so uninformed I was on how he got and kept his power. Thank God time allows us to move beyond the wall of propaganda, right?

Is this guy nearsighted? Is that what's behind the "eyes" whammy in that photo? It's either a physical problem, or a psychological one!

13. don't do it, George! It's a trap!

First clue -- "Churchill" is not the best choice for name-dropping when it comes to Iranian politics. Sir Winston gave the go-ahead for the covert activity that overthrew Prime Minister Mossadegh 50 years ago and led to the installation of the Shah.

My Iranian friend, a kindly and mild-mannered man, goes deep red and all but spits on the floor when Churchill's name is mentioned. After I read "All the Shah's Men" (an excellent book, very informative) -- I understand why.

If George emulates his idol Churchill (I'm told he has a bust of the British leader in his office, and talks to it on occasion) -- he will be viewed in the same regard in Iran -- reviled by the majority of people, and viewed as a greedy meddler who didn't know what he was doing. Even people who weren't big fans of Mossadegh, let alone of the current regime, think the British and Americans were way out of line to intervene like that.

27. I cannot begin to describe how stupid that would be
If you've been paying attention to world news, you know that the youth of Iran (over half the population) are sick of the ayatollahs and want more freedom. They love to watch smuggled in videos, listen to smuggled CDs, and wear American fashions (even if they have to wear them under their chadors).

But don't you think that their "turf defending" instincts will kick in if the U.S. launches an invasion? Don't you think that Iran will become a second Iraq.

Iran will inevitably evolve into a more democratic country as the old fanatics who are running the country die off. We just need to leave them alone to solve their own problems.
