Schwarzenegger composed, on the message
Schwarzenegger composed, on the message
Actor optimistic, bypasses details in Chronicle interview

Carla Marinucci, Chronicle political writer Sunday, September 28, 2003

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There are glimpses of the man who boasted he did a million sit-ups to become Mr. Olympia -- focused, famously disciplined -- as Arnold Schwarzenegger readies for an interview on his gubernatorial aspirations.

Striding into a conference room in his attorney's office, he first directs a news photographer -- with a firm smile -- to shoot him in a variety of conversational poses.

<SNIP>

Such painstaking attention to image is a Hollywood norm, but rare in the rumpled shirt, sweltering political scene in Sacramento. And his image -- as much as sheer force of personality, a sharp message, and a few million dollars -- has catapulted the lightening quick 60-day gubernatorial campaign of the Austrian-born action hero and business mogul into the history books.

Even on a dizzying day of campaign appearances and fund-raisers, the GOP front-runner -- getting down to issues -- appears composed in a 30-minute interview with The Chronicle. Dressed in a white polo shirt and khakis, he may have met some questions with a steely gaze -- shades of "The Terminator" -- but he never breaks a sweat. And he never gets off message.

THE BRIGHT SIDE
Whether it's about California's future, budget or education, business or economy, that message appears to be less about detail and more about being positive. "The reality is, you can do anything you want. If that's your goal, that's what you can do," he said. "What I'm saying is, the impossible can be made possible."

"that message appears to be less about detail and more about being positive."
So far this sums up his campaign. Give me a pot of coffee and a few million dollars and I am also this good.

1. The media is in overdrive right now trying to help Arnold win
The NYTimes ran a two page attack piece on Davis and other papers and tabloids are running articles that try to convince people to vote for Arnold.

This is a preview of the non-stop right wing media whoring we are going to see in 2004.

2. The media at www.rotten.com aren't helping with those naked pictures.
Democratic dirty tricksters could dog Arnold's California campaign trail by printing and passing out copies of those dirty pictures avalable at www.rotten.com.

Some enterprising opponents could even make naked-Arnold t-shirts and sell them at his campaign rallies. I bet a Naked-Arnold t-shirt with a caption below the picture that reads "Republican Family Values" would sell like hotcakes, or even beefcakes.

The t-shirts might become a hot campaign collectable on E-Bay, although perhaps a little too raunchy to be sold in the DU store.

Edited on Sun Sep-28-03 06:16 AM by thebigidea
as if its so fantastic and so disciplined to always parrot the same damn talking points and empty catchphrases.

The same nonsense they pull to make Dubya's relentless repetition seem good.

here's a message for you to be on about, Arnold: "PUMPING IS BETTER THAN CUMMING!"

stay on that one for a while.

6. W was too "on the message" - it's a replay of 2000 and a preview
of next year indeed. California, the hope for the future rests in your hands now! We'll test the power of full bore propaganda on people's minds.

A War Without Guns
The population communication operation uses message pre-testing and post-testing, as well as the very same strategic evaluation process described by the ad hoc working group on psychological warfare at the start of the Cold War.

PART ONE OF A THREE-PART SERIES

The United States is not at war with Nigeria in the usual sense. There has been no formal declaration of war, and not a single uniformed battalion has landed. But there is a very real conflict going on -- a different kind of conflict, the sort of operation strategic planners usually call unconventional warfare.
A war can exist without aerial bombardments, missile launchings, or a massive ground offensive. Indeed, according to an official definition -- coming from no less an authority than a textbook published at the United States' National Defence University in Washington -- war is simply an action taken to compel an adversary to behave in a certain way. The text explains: The essential element in war is not killing per se, but rather the compelling of an opponent to do one's will. Killing may or may not be involved... The essence is a contest of political will, whose means may involve varying forms and degrees of compulsion.
Compulsion without troops is sometimes called "political war" or "psychological warfare." It is an expensive, time-consuming process, the outcome of which can be somewhat unpredictable. Nevertheless, non-military forms of warfare have distinct advantages. The "adversary" generally does not clearly perceive the coercion, and the campaign can continue for years -- even generations -- without attracting attention.

25 Rules of Disinformation: How to Fight Back

Built upon Thirteen Techniques for Truth Suppression by David Martin, the following may be useful to the initiate in the world of dealing with veiled and half-truth, lies, and suppression of truth when serious crimes are studied in public forums. This, sadly, includes every day news media, one of the worst offenders with respect to being a source of disinformation. Where the crime involves a conspiracy, or a conspiracy to cover up the crime, there will invariably be a disinformation campaign launched against those seeking to uncover and expose the truth and/or the conspiracy. There are specific tactics which disinfo artists tend to apply, as revealed here. Also included with this material are seven common traits of the disinfo artist which may also prove useful in identifying players and motives. The more a particular party fits the traits and is guilty of following the rules, the more likely they are a professional disinfo artist with a vested motive.

People can be bought, threatened, or blackmailed into providing disinformation, so even "good guys" can be suspect in many cases.

A rational person participating as one interested in the truth will evaluate that chain of evidence and conclude either that the links are solid and conclusive, that one or more links are weak and need further development before conclusion can be arrived at, or that one or more links can be broken, usually invalidating (but not necessarily so, if parallel links already exist or can be found, or if a particular link was merely supportive, but not in itself key) the argument. The game is played by raising issues which either strengthen or weaken (preferably to the point of breaking) these links. It is the job of a disinfo artist to interfere with these evaluation... to at least make people think the links are weak or broken when, in truth, they are not... or to propose alternative solutions leading away from the truth. Often, by simply impeding and slowing down the process through disinformation tactics, a level of victory is assured because apathy increases with time and rhetoric.

It would seem true in almost every instance, that if one cannot break the chain of evidence for a given solution, revelation of truth has won out. If the chain is broken either a new link must be forged, or a whole new chain developed, or the solution is invalid an a new one must be found... but truth still wins out. There is no shame in being the creator or supporter of a failed solution, chain, or link, if done with honesty in search of the truth. This is the rational approach. While it is understandable that a person can become emotionally involved with a particular side of a given issue, it is really unimportant who wins, as long as truth wins. But the disinfo artist will seek to emotionalize and chastise any failure (real or false claims thereof), and will seek by means of intimidation to prevent discussion in general.

12. I hope Schwarzenegger does not win.....
but it is looking like he just might. I suppose
a small compensation if he wins will be that
no matter who wins they will have to raise
taxes and cut services. At least it will be
a repug getting the crititcism for a change.
I also think that Arnold is going to be a
VERY liberal repug which will drive the party
crazy.....that will be nice. Still I hope he
loses.

As Bush is to the country, so Arnold is to California. Now all they need is Kelsey Grammar and Dennis Miller for Senators.

15. Here in L.A. we see this media push !! all mudslinging--
And Ahnold just looks like a total idiot.
He can't even pronounce but a couple of words (wuds) and he actually comes off like he has brain damage or is slightly mentally handicapped --( a far cry from the "slick" strong Terminator image they're shooting for)

***Seriously--he comes off like a total idiot !!!

I DOUBT HE CAN EVEN COME CLOSE TO WINNING !!!

Don't worry,
Most of those "supportive" rich republikkins are too busy with their little personal bullshit to show up at the polls anyway.

I know California has a Democratic Majority and am 100% sure a Democrat will remain Governor .

16. How can people keep falling for this crap?
But I say -- always, while you're thinking about the worker, also think about the job creator . . . then he can be successful, then he can go and say, 'I'll do this for the people. I'll do that for the people.'

And he says he wants to run California like a business.

How many years do workers need to keep getting screwed before they realize that it doesn't work this way!
