US 'had no new evidence of WMD' in Iraq
http://news.ft.com/servlet/ContentServer?pagename=FT.com/StoryFT/FullStory&c=StoryFT&cid=1059480179332

The US launched its war with Iraq despite having no fresh intelligence evidence that the regime of Saddam Hussein was developing mass destruction weapons or forging ties with terrorists, the leaders of the House of Representatives intelligence committee have concluded.

The findings by the Republican and Democratic heads of the committee have again forced the US administration to defend its decision to go to war - at a time when it must persuade Congress to back an unpopular $87bn (€76bn, £52bn) request for funds to maintain security and reconstruct Iraq.

Condoleezza Rice, White House national security adviser, said on Sunday on Fox News that there was "enrichment of intelligence" between 1998 and 2003 and that "nothing pointed to a reversal of Saddam Hussein's very active efforts to acquire weapons of mass destruction".

But the heads of the House intelligence committee - normally strong backers of the Central Intelligence Agency, said in a letter to George Tenet, CIA director, that the agency's conclusions about Iraq's weapons programmes were based largely on outdated assessments.

4. Your comment explains the lack of posts
to this rather important post. It's almost as if the tide turned today with the press and Bush and Iraq.

But the Deanie Boppers wouls much rather bash Clark and anyone else that dares oppose the foot-in-mouth disease ridden Dean.

3. John Pilger says he has evidence as well
Australian investigative journalist John Pilger says he has evidence the war against Iraq was based on a lie which could cost George W Bush and Tony Blair their jobs and bring Prime Minister John Howard down with them.

A television report by Pilger aired on British screens last night said US Secretary of State Colin Powell and National Security Adviser Condoleeza Rice confirmed in early 2001 that Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein had been disarmed and was no threat.

But after the terrorist attacks on New York and Washington on September 11 that year, Pilger claimed Rice said the US "must move to take advantage of these new opportunities" to attack Iraq and claim control of its oil.

5. The one thing this admin keeps referring back to...
is that previous intelligence indicated WMD. For a president to order an invasion of a country based on old intelligence is criminal. bush should be impeached for such behavior.

8. Kick
This is important news, looks like the slow counter-coup from the military/intelligence/"non-neo"-conservative communitiy is gaining momentum.

9. Great article. Love to see these bustards struggling so hard.
Hope it gets a whole lot worse for them. They certainly have earned it.

10. Let's put this in a positive light:
May George W. Bush reap all the fruits of the war on Iraq. May everyone who had a hand in starting this attack receive their just compensation. Amen.
