A Republican surprise in Louisiana
http://www.cnn.com/2003/ALLPOLITICS/09/29/timep.louisiana.tm/

In Louisiana's race for Governor, Republican Bobby Jindal, 32, born and raised in Baton Rouge by parents who emigrated from India, is in a surprising dead heat for first place with Democratic Lieutenant Governor Kathleen Blanco.

Jindal already has a whiz kid's resume: state health secretary, executive director of the national commission on Medicare, president of the University of Louisiana system and a top health-policy adviser to the Bush Administration — all before the age of 30.

He has wooed Louisiana's relatively conservative voters with his advocacy of tax cuts for job creation and his opposition to gun control and abortion.

1. Tax cuts does NOT work.
If this moron thinks that tax cuts for the rich will work for LA, he has to look at Chimpy's two very failed tax cuts. This will turn away the conservatives in Lousinana and tell this schmuck to go away.

4. I'm afraid this guy might just win.
All the candidates want to lower or eliminate corporate taxes to try and get companies to move here. But if companies do not pay taxes, then that just means citizens will have to pay more taxes. Our public schools and roads suck! I realize we do need companies to set up shop in Louisiana, but there has to be other incentives.

I pay more in homeowners insurance than I do in property taxes. That just doesn't make sense to me. And whenever someone mentions raising property taxes, you'd think they were trying to tear your right arm off.

Oh, our and sales tax is at 9%. Chicago's tax isn't that high. (Last time I checked, close but not 9%.) I swear they just nickle and dime you to death down here.

Rant over. Thanks.

P.S. Kathleen Blanco seems wishy-washy to me. I'm voting for Leach.

11. Buddy tells it like it IS don't he....I like him a LOT....
....his bluntness reminds me of Huey P. and Earl Long...I'm torn between him and Richard....*sigh*....but truly can't see either Jindle or Blanco being in the lead...THAT POLL sounds wishy washy to ME as can't see the people in this state voting for him because face it he looks like a Muslim....nor Blanco...because she's too ditzy to be the first woman Gov. in Louisiana....unless they got enough of the computer voting machines in place then there shoud be an all DEM run off IMHO between Richard...Buddy and/or Randy....that's my prediction.....just can't/don't want to see it any other way

right man for the job in Louisiana. His priorities are moral and people orientated and not big money orientated.

22. I heard on
"Louisiana Live" radio show that Leach may be polling low. Not that people aren't interested in him, but the polling people just aren't doing demographics correctly. (I hope you understand that. I can't think of how to say it any clearer.)

In New Orleans all I see are Leach signs and New Orleans makes up good amount of the population. That's how Landrieu got re-elected.

Yeah, I think it will be hard for the guys out in the bayou to vote for Jindal. Remember, this state almost voted David Duke in. :scared:

now but used to be anti-abortion. She flip flops.

21. I emailed Blanco
Edited on Mon Sep-29-03 11:03 PM by yankeeinlouisiana
once and asked her position on choice. Now I used words like "choice" and "reproductive issues". You think that would of given her a clue. But no. She emails me back stating she's 100% pro-life and thanks me for my support and voting for her.

Well, I had to email her back and told her I was very sorry to hear she was anti-choice and no she didn't have my support or my vote.

She hasn't replied back to that email, yet.

EDIT: PS -- The only pro-choice candidate in LA is Leach. The other dems are anti-choice with exception for rape, incest, life of the mother. The Repub candidates are pretty extreme in their anti-choice position.

26. No, I wouldn't
rather have Jindal in. If Leach doesn't get in the run-off, Ieyoub probably will and he's better than Blanco. Same stance on choice though. If it's a choice between Jindal and Blanco, of course I'll vote for Blanco.

There really aren't a lot of differences between the candidates except Buddy Leach. There are 8 or 9 candidates and Leach is the only one saying something different. The Times-Picayune had a chart asking the candidates about "social" issues. It made it all pretty clear.

.....it's NOT gonna be between those two anyway....REDNECKS ain't gonna vote for Jindal....the polls are shit....he nor Blanco are gonna be in the run off..mark my words....UNLESS...the computers are jacked with....then THAT is the ONLY way there's going to be a run off between those two....I know Jindal's *numbers* are some fuzzy fundy math...or doubious repuke hoopla because they know they've got it rigged.

Lay off the accusations....you don't have a say anyway! :P

7. "My tax cuts will create jobs."
I'm so fucking sick of hearing that. I agree with all the previous posters here. What these people call "supply-side" economics isn't really supply-side economics. They don't create jobs, just fiscal crises like our national one right now. But politically, it's always easy to sell a tax cut.

8. Tax cuts stimulate investments, that creates jobs...
in southern hemispheric countries. They make possible cheap imports that suck money out of our country.

I really love global trade. Ship goods, NOT factories!

Being a Christian is one thing, being a fundie is something else. He falls into the later category.

Why be so defensive about the term "Christian", unless you are a rigth wing Christian?
I'm a Liberal Christian and I view Right wing Christians as the enemies of what Jesus stood for. See http://www.LiberalsLikeChrist.Org/Christlike .

31. Treachery.
I'm not under the illusion that someone who went so far so fast made it solely by personal merits, values and hard work. After all, those are the sorts of things the pukes tend to despise.

It is very easy to do well once one decides to ignore the restrictions of morals and restraint. However those same "values" that help one move up quickly are too temporal and don't last. The crashing down always is met with ugly results afterwards.
