Deans tops Kerry, Clark in New Hampshire poll

BOSTON --'Howard Dean topped John Kerry by 9 points in a new poll of likely New Hampshire Democratic primary voters, with newcomer Wesley Clark speeding past the other seven Democratic presidential contenders.

Dean was the choice for 26 percent of voters, followed by Kerry with 17 percent and Clark with 10 percent, according to the poll by WHDH-TV and Suffolk University conducted between Sept. 26-28. The poll was released Monday.

The latest poll shows Dean has crossed an important bridge in his bid to win New Hampshire, according to Suffolk University adjunct professor and pollster David Paleologos.

"This is a wake-up call for John Kerry," Paleologos said. "Kerry needs to reconnect with the voters that once supported him."

The poll also found Dean's popularity strong, with a favorable rating of 61 percent, while only 14 percent rated him unfavorably.

New Poll indicates Dean showing strength with Independent voters

A new poll of New Hampshire voters came out today--American Research Group (ARG). Overall, John Kerry continues to be the front runner in NH by leading overall by a 28-18 percent margin over Howard Dean. Kerry leads among Democrats by a healthy 31-16 percent over registered dems.

However, Howard Dean leads among Independents by a solid 26-15 percent margin. This is significant.

Looking ahead to a contest with Bush in November of '04--this appeal to independents which Dean apparently has (he has led among independents in this poll and others for some time) could be decisive. In NH, Bush narrowly defeated Gore becuz Independents in the state went for him over Gore. This may be different if Dean is the nominee.

This race is going to come down to Dean and Clark in my opinion. I really want Dean to win the nomination, but should Clark come out on top I will support him. I saw Wesley Clark in Austin today and I did like him. I liked what he said and he already has a good base of support. He just didn't excite me like Dean does. Dean really makes me believe that I can take back my country. I'm still holding out for the Dean/Clark ticket.

Gallup poll. Remember all the hooping and hollering about Dean being 20 pts up over Kerry?

16. Edwards had the biggest gain, Dean and Kerry went down and Clark stayed

the same.

It seems that Clark may have peaked and the rest of the field is evening out (toi the detriment of both Dean and Kerry because in the most recent poll everyone but Dean Kerry and Clark rose)

The news (the good news to ME) that that Dean's lead over Kerry is virtually the same in both polls given the MOE and Clark is going NOWHERE Fast (And people are flocking elsewhere).

After the last debates it seems that Gephardt, Edwards and Leiberman all basically picked up and almost are tying with Clark (given margin of error)and even Kucinich, Sharpton and Braun may have gained (which explains the spreading out of the points. The leaders are losing and the losers are gaining. Ultimately this helps DEAN IMHO as he will stay on top if all things stay equal more or less.

Dean earned 30%, compared to Massachusetts Senator John Kerry’s 20%. Newly-announced contender retired General Wesley Clark placed third in the Granite State at 10%, and may have reduced Dean’s 2-1 lead over Kerry in August.

None of the remaining seven declared candidates climbed out of single digits in current polling. Missouri Congressman Richard Gephardt received 6%, followed by Connecticut Senator Joseph Lieberman’s 5%. North Carolina Senator John Edwards earned 2%, and the others, civil rights activist Rev. Al Sharpton, former Illinois Senator Carol Mosley Braun, Ohio Congressman Dennis Kucinich, and Florida Senator Bob Graham, each received one percent or less.

The only candidate I have EVER given money to is Dean. But I'm about to jump to the Clark ship. Honestly, those whom I like (Dean, Clark, Kucinich) haven't impressed me live (just on the internet). I'm now to the point where I'm going to swallow my wants and go with who's gonna win. I'm thinking it's Clark, even though he's had me worried with his first appearnces. But, he's shown himself to be a quick study, so my gut's with him. Dean just turn's me off in person. Lousy smile, too mean appearing. Shallow remarks, I know but the electorate IS shallow and I'm going with who can get it right this time.

You're in good company, and I'm not even talking about myself! ;-)

As a Southerner with a military background, Clark definitely has the best chance of winning in the South. He also completely blunts Shrub's sole "claim to fame," his status as a "wartime" pResident, whereas all of the Dems are going to be far better than Shrub on domestic/economic policy (and Clark is also one of the best in the field in terms of economic credentials, with his Masters from Oxford in economics and his teaching of economics at West Point).

If you're looking for a winner, IMO Clark has the BEST chance out of all of our candidates!
