US soldier killed in gun battle in Afghanistan

US soldier killed in gun battle in Afghanistan
BY AFP AT BAGRAM AIR BASE

An American soldier was killed and two others wounded in a gun battle in southeast Afghanistan, the US armed forces said today.

Two militants were also killed in the battle yesterday, which took place near a US military base in Shkin, Pattika province, 280km (175m) south of Kabul.

Suspected Taleban fighters launched six rockets at the base on Sunday and two rockets were fired at the base on Saturday. There were no casualties reported in those attacks.

Colonel Rodney Davis, speaking from Bagram Air Base, the coalition's headquarters 50km (31m) north of Kabul, said: "One coalition service member died of wounds and two were wounded as a result of fighting on Monday near Shkin.

"The soldiers were engaged in a combat manoeuvre against anti-coalition soldiers … Coalition forces killed two enemy personnel with small arms fire." (snip/...)

3. But the President said...
Didn't whistle ass tell the UN that the Taliban was no more? I'm sure I heard that.

What a shame; another family grieves.

4. Afghanistan? That's a funny name!
I'll bet it doesn't even exist. Probably a name made up by the liberal media just to discredit the Dear Leader. We're fightin' terra-ists in Iraq, not "Afghanistan"! That's such a funny name! I see it as a place where long-haired dogs run around wearing little crocheted blankets.

6. OMG!
I met a soldier named Rodney Davis in the Seattle airport
some months back-
He was being shipped out in a matter of weeks and
his wife and baby were with him.
We talked about what a pig the shrub is.
He had served in GW1 and was NOT into going back
to the ME. He said he thought that the situation was very bad
and that the misadministration was going to get a lot of
soldiers killed.
I wonder if this is the same guy?
He asked me to pray for his safe return to his family.
I have, every day.
If this is the same guy, I am glad to kno whe is still alive-
he has a beautiful baby daughter to come home to.
