Huffington to Address Recall Candidacy Tonight

By KIRK SEMPLE

rianna Huffington, the independent candidate for governor of California and sharp-witted campaign provocateur, plans to announce the future of her candidacy on national television tonight, her campaign aides said.

Her appearance on CNN's "Larry King Live" comes a day after she said at a campaign event in San Francisco that she was considering dropping out of the race.

The possibility that Ms. Huffington might fold a week before the recall vote reflects the growing lead Arnold Schwarzenegger, a Republican, appears to have among challengers to Gov. Gray Davis, a Democrat.

Ms. Huffington's departure would also cost the race one of its most recognizable names and colorful characters as the competition appears to be narrowing into a battle between Mr. Schwarzenegger and Mr. Davis.

1. I Hope That If Arianna Drops Out....
....she endorses voting "NO" on the recall and "YES" for Cruz Bustamonte.

2. Poor Arriana
She's really come around the last couple of years and she's been
beat up pretty bad. All the pundits reamed her after the debates,
instead of Arnold, who deserved it. She'll bounce back though.
And I do think she and the green candidate should bow out at this
time.

3. What A Prima Donna
Sorry, no slack in the least for Zsa Zsa Huffington in these quarters.

She's been sucking up as much "air" and using this circus for her own political gain. Be assured she's already writing to book about her "valliant crusade" and stay the darling of the cable channels, but if Ahnold wins, she's one of the major causes.

This lady is the Nader of the recall and all she cares is to see her name in lights and probably thinks the world revolves around her. Hopefully this ends her "political career".

For a couple years I got a kick out of listening to her and "her conversion", but her antics on this recall shows all it's about in her world is her.

So what good is her 5% gonna do? Had she gotten out a couple weeks ago, then who knows how this mess would have worked out.

5. Your so completely WRONG!
"but if Ahnold wins, she's one of the major causes" how do you back that statement up???

Do you think she is taking votes away from Cruz B? Cruz is responsible only for himself. Arianna has been a breath of fresh air in this race and has raised (along with Peter Camejo) many important issues on how the policies of the Bush Administration have directly impacted California's budget shortfall.

Oh... and dont be suprised when she gives her support to Camejo.

6. It's All About Zsa Zsa
Sorry, but Arianna's been camera hogging on this all along...from the amusing stunt of stepping into the frame when Ahnold filed to her stunt tonight on Larry King. She could have sent out a Press Release that said she quit or do the quick soundbite, but nope...gotta be on Larry (Geritol) King and will get at least 30 minutes to talk all about Zsa Zsa.

I don't think she helped Bustamonte by being the first to beat on him for Indian Casino money and then distracted the tempo of the debate with her sniping with Ahnold, who obviously was well prepared by his Wilson handlers just for her. It turned any concept of a serious debate into a showcase for quickie Ahnold soundbites, that got on the news and then the image that this POS actually won the debate.

If Bustamonte loses, it's definitely was his race to lose and I wasn't too impressed with his campaign...even with the media blitz against him. I'm just hopefull the California voters are as smart as I give them credit for and they'll beat this recall for the political sham that it is.

And if Arianna endorses Camejo, so what? I'll only change my view if I see her do a half hour commercial against the recall (not FOR Bustamonte)...anything beyond that tells me she's only in it for herself.

7. arianna has every right to run and take it to the bitter end.
it's the American way. if you don't like what the candidates are saying, run for office yourself. she's done that. but if she now chooses to throw her support to Cruz, that shows real class, and she deserves praise for it.

9. Gee, no way she intends on speaking about the RECALL tonight, huh?
And how in the world would endorsing Bustamante show that she's in it only for herself?

Please, make more sense than this.

10. Yes, it would show love for California.
Her concern for the people would lead to her to take such a position. I certainly would have not a word of criticism.

11. You're so RIGHT!
Arianna declared her candidacy well before Bustamante did, when it looked like the Dems were idiotically not going to run anyone to the right of Arnold. She had a huge "draft Arianna" movement trying to get her to run, and she did. Had Bustamante not spoiled it, we might well be on our way to having the first Progressive governor of this progressive state since Jerry Brown!

And if you think that Arianna is doing this for herself and her own advancement, give me a break!!! I can't believe anyone would dis on a woman who time and time again has used the spotlight to SLAM Bush. She's my HERO!!!

If she dropped out and endorsed Bustamante as an attempt to stop the right wing power grab, I would probably go along, but it would take a very tight nose-plugging to not vote for Comejo who I like almost as much as Arianna.

Well, do what she will, she has my support. I just pray that after this is over (assuming she's not in the Governor's Mansion) that she'll go back to Left, Right & Center, where she's desperately needed!

GO ARIANNA GO!!!

Arianna YES
Recall No

P.S. Here's a letter I received from campaign headquarters re: Larry King tonight...

*******************************************************************

We urge you to tune in tonight to watch Arianna on Larry King
Live.

Predictions are mounting from all quarters that California
voters will recall Governor Gray Davis, and that -- one week
from today -- a minority of those voters will elect Arnold
Schwarzenegger governor of California.

Let's be perfectly clear: this outcome would amount to nothing
less than a successful right-wing coup, spearheaded and
bankrolled by the Republican Party. Arianna recognizes that we
have entered the hour of maximum danger for democracy in
California. And she is determined to do absolutely everything in
her power to stop a Bush Republican from seizing power in the
Golden State.

Tonight, Arianna will be the first guest on Larry King Live on
CNN at 6pm PST / 9pm EST. On this nationally televised TV
program, she will discuss how the new and emerging political
realities will impact her candidacy and her role in the
remaining days of this historic election.

Please tune in at the top of the hour. You will not want to miss
this important interview.

Thank you for your time and attention.

Van Jones,
Grassroots Director
Arianna Huffington For Governor

8. I would be thankful for her support of Bustamante.
We need center and left unity right now. There's no other way. I know that both Camejo and Huffington realize the stakes as well. Bustamante is no Zell Miller--that's my point on this matter today. He's espousing a progressive agenda and we have the power to hold him to it thanks to progressive leadership of the legislature. I would be enthused for us to establish unity.

13. I like Arianna...
She only put her hat in the ring after it was certain there was going to BE a recall, and she has been wonderful in bringing up issues that the other candidates were just not talking about.

If she drops out and throws that support behind Bustamante, then my respect for her will grow.

I hope I have the chance to vote for her in a real election some time soon.
