Noted N.H. Republican endorses Democrat Dean
Democrat Howard Dean’s stance against the war in Iraq has brought him supporters from across party lines in New Hampshire.

Hilary Cleveland of New London, wife of the late Congressman James Cleveland, and a prominent campaigner for both President Bushes, is helping organize a Republicans for Dean movement.

Dean announced the names of 40 Republicans who will serve on a steering committee. Cleveland says she’s been a lifelong Republican, but will switch her registration to independent so she can vote for Dean in the presidential primary.

Cleveland was the New London co-chair for George W. Bush’s 2000 campaign and was the state finance chair Bush’s father in 1980.

"I have been disappointed in the Bush Administration’s policies in Iraq, and former Governor Dean has best articulated why we should not have gone to war in Iraq. I like his emphasis on the importance of internationalism and his fiscal program," Cleveland said.

"I’m a moderate Republican and moderate Republicans did stress the need for international involvement in Iraq, and moderate Republicans have always spoken out for fiscal integrity," she said.

This has to be good news. I hope they will support whatever candidate becomes the Democratic nominee.

1. Oh my Dean Republicans
We may be at the cusp of a movement by many moderates in the
GOP to leave the GOP, and Dean just gave them the excuse.

If dean gets the nod you will see them stay, if he does not...
you may still see them leave, as more and more of the
scandals develop folks

3. Ooh, watch the GOP presidential hopes crumble away.
I hope they support any Dem (other than Leiberman), as well; but I'm glad they're for Dean now.

4. Dean and Bush: two of a kind
Note this woman backed Dubya. She and Rove (see 4/4 Washington Post) are now promoting Dean's candidacy. Why do right wing Republicans want Dean to get the nomination? Could it have anything to do with
Dean's positions on Medicare, Social Security and the military budget or his opposition to the rights of criminal defendants or his 9/12/03 call to re-evaluate the importance of civil liberties(see Rutland Herald from 9/14/03)?

In 2002, the voters made a clear statement that if they could not tell the difference between the candidates, they wouldn't vote Democrat. If Dean gets the nomination, I guess the election's over and the American people will have lost again.

6. A great many people see through Dean
I find it interesting that you would attack Nicolas in a thread about Republicans for Dean. Nicolas's name hasn't ever appeared in this thread. Incidentally, he and I support different candidates though I respect his opinion. Check out a peace rally sometime. You'll discover that most of the people at these rallies are wise to Dean and probably won't vote for him - even against Bush.

9. Ahhh, you stand by your man.
How nice. Some of us HAVE checked out peace rallies, and folks like Nicj who attack, attack, attack are not usually there.

I've discovered that your facts are wrong. Most people at peace rallies would vote for ABB.

And so I know exactly what I'm talking about. As for Nic, I don't even know what state he's from but I like his postings. They are very well researched.

12. So in your small world (which it is) you enjoy HATE speech?
That is what he provides daily.

If you attend peace rallies weekly...EXCELLENT, continue please!

If you think your particular rally and participants are a good polling of Americans who will vote in 04, get real.

This board has a search feature. If you really think everything your hero says is true, search it.

There is a difference, my friend, between People who favor one Dem over the other and the People who simply want to DISRUPT.

I hope you will read enough to distinguish the two yourself. :spank:

7. There's a difference in motivation
Rove wants Dean nominated because he thinks that Dean's too left wing for the American public, making an easy steal for * in 2004.

This woman wants Dean because she sees herself as moderate and thinks that Dean's moderate like her. She isn't happy with *, and would actually like to see Dean elected.

Thanks for the candidate bashing though--it's always refreshing.

I will stick with the good doctor. If you have a problem with that, I guess it will just have to remain your problem.
