Schwarzenegger unveiling global warming plan at U.N. conference
Schwarzenegger unveiling global warming plan at U.N. conference
By TERENCE CHEA, Associated Press Writer

Wednesday, June 1, 2005

(06-01) 12:50 PDT San Francisco (AP) --

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger aimed to steal the show at the United Nations environmental conference Wednesday by unveiling a plan to combat global warming by setting goals for reducing California's emissions of greenhouse gases.

The voluntary goals, set forth in an executive order Schwarzenegger planned to describe in an afternoon speech, appear to put the Republican governor on an opposite course from the Bush administration, which has rebuffed international efforts to address climate change.

But because they're voluntary, they won't likely have as much impact as some scientists and state lawmakers want. The California Assembly this week overwhelmingly passed a bill to impose a mandatory 7 percent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2010.

Still, Schwarzenegger's announcement was sure to grab headlines as big-city mayors from around the globe arrived Wednesday for the first United Nations World Environmental Day Conference held on American soil.

4. Maybe Gov. Dumbass could ditch part of his personal Hummer fleet
That would probably do more than this pail of greenwash.

Oh, and by the way, just what happened to his plan to convert one of his Smallcox Coupes to hydrogen? Guess they didn't need it after the recall, huh?

12. OMG..Jon Stewert had the funniest
schitick on the price of gas and humvees on last night.

Rob Corddry was the correspondent and he was hilarious! He had this block long humvee and he used a small car to get from the gas pump back to the the driver's seat...he liked to say.."when you squeeze the gas pump..the gas pump is Squeezing you!" "Ha Ha!" :D

3. California already has some of the stringent environmental laws

in the world, further more they are supported by most of its citizens.

For Schwarzenegger to stand on a soapbox and add verbiage to an ongoing solution that the Bush Jr. Administration tried to break with rolling blackouts in 2001 (remember those, if not go see the movie Enron), will just add to his already lack of creditability. See the media follow Schwarzenegger like a whipped dog (those folks a losing credibility also). Just another dog and pony show.

Take this in face you linux users ( :sarcasm: )

Animals in advertising - Penguins
Penguins are popular actors in advertisements. That is because they are so cute, so human, so funny. Penguins aren't good messengers, though. Because unlike lions, horses, owls ..., penguins stand for no specific feature.
It makes them difficult to cast. Only very few of our samples surpass the take-away allusions about ice, cold, or heat.
Emperor's, King's and Adelie penguin are most often used, but Gentoo, Magellanic and two new creations were also found.

7. Of course his accent must be laughed at
There's plenty to criticize in the idea of voluntary reductions, but some posters must first attack his Austrian accent. That's common on DU whenever Schwarzenegger is discussed.

Common and reprehensible.

11. Here's his plan
Governor Arnold wants to require every poor Californian to wear a special hat with a mirror on it when they go outdoors. Illegal aliens would be eligible for amnesty if they wear their mirrored hat while performing agricultural work.

The mirrors on the hats reflect sunlight back into space, lowering the Earth's libido. Or albedo. The Governator doesn't quite remember which is which.

So, is that Good Science, or what?

18. his plan is simple and effective.
His plan is to maintain an illusion of credibility by doing something very visible in which he presents something that is very vague and general in scope. This is an attempt to boost his sagging popularity so he can spend the millions he has raised outside of the state on TV ads to push his special election to the brainwashed voters of California. Whatever he says matters not, for it is all just Orwellian doublespeak and the real plan is rape the middle class population of California, on behalf of the Corporate Fascists that run our country.

When the fuck will people wake up.

19. Gropenfuhrer's ratings in CA are in the toilet...guess he's hoping for a
little boost there?

Oh goody...he announces something that every smart Californian and American knows to be good for our planet, our future...

I guess we should all vote for him now? So the little nazi did something good...well, sorry, it doesn't do it...doesn't wipe off the books all the other 1000's of things this man has done to our state to destroy it...

Just ask the nurses...just ask the Firemen...just ask the teachers...just ask - THE PARENT's of kids in the state of CA....No way is this guy going to be re-elected.... :puke:

21. Just a hollow media stunt designed to curry favor before special elections
It's all meaningless. He knows he's got to win over some progressives before the special election or his proposals will be rejected and he'll have absolutely no platform upon which to run for re-election. Desperate, meaningless media stunt from a self-absorbed dickhead who aone uses enough arosol hairspray every day to account for a hole in the ozone the size of his hummer. He's disgusting, stupid and a disgrace to California if only for the fact that he looks like his face is made out of wax. Unfortunately, I think his brain is made out of wax, too - a trained monkey would be more effective as governor.
